Expected Salary

TLDR; Had a data science intern join our team. His resume was really impressive, good academic record, had a couple of research internship (NUS, IIT), 4 papers in journals etc. His interview was just okay, but we probably got biased by his resume which looked stellar. This guy didn’t know very basic python programming. We gave him basic task of converting a image dataset from one format to another(very first step of developing ML model). Took a week, constantly badgered all the team members, would just randomly copy code from ChatGPT, and if it won’t work, would ask us to solve it for him. Didn’t figure it out in a week, and at the end of week, we arranged a meeting with him about the update of work. Turns out, he didn’t even understand the task clearly. But we didn’t mind him, as it was his first week and we cut him some slack. The next week, I understood that he struggled in programming so gave him very basic task. He just had to figure out a command line program. Took two days, gave the result without any documentation, and the very next day he asked whether he would get the credit of his work and that it would account for his decision to full time conversion. Then he started taking a leave, EVERY WEEK. We used to have scrum call at 10AM, this guy wakes up at 10:30AM, and tells that he slept late and would come to office by 11AM( we had work from office policy), and he would come around 11:30AM. Would slack at work the entire day, give him some basic task, would keep asking silly doubts, copy paste code from ChatGPT and ask us to solve the bugs. Come to office without taking bath, no professionalism at all. One day I scolded him a lot, to come at time, learn some professionalism( if he doesn’t have good skills, atleast a humble attitude and professionalism should be there), but dude had no effect, comes at 12PM the very next day, missing the scrum call again. Was scolded many times, but didn’t have effect on him. 50k/per month stipend, completely wasted.

TLDR; Did B.Tech in ECE from a tier 3 college. In college, explored different avenues and finally found deep learning and computer vision to be the most interesting. Did lots of projects, research paper etc. However, being from a tier 3 college, making a career in this domain wasn’t easy. Graduated in 2020, joined a startup as an intern with a stipend of 35k per month. 6 months later, the internship didn’t convert, although I worked really hard and my manager liked my work. Joined another startup with a salary of 6.5LPA. Although I had better offers, I decided to go with this one ad they were providing WFH (it was peak covid time). A few months into this startup, I realised the founder had no goal, no vision, was given random vague projects, founders would pick up any project that their client would somehow talk about, assign it to me without doing any market research, and few months later scratch that. I realised, there was no future here, and for no reason, one of the founder kept micromanaging me (although the colleagues and seniors were great). And by that time, I also realised I was severely underpaid, as one of my close friend, who was a year junior to me was paid higher. I decided to leave that place, during a time of mass resignations in 2022 (the founders did try to retain me, but I was adamant as I didn’t see any vision and founder was too rigid to listen to anyone). I worked there for 1.3 years, at the same salary. Later on in August 2022, I joined a series C funded startup, with a base pay of 14.5LPA, at nearly 2 YOE. While the hike was well above 120%, in some time I realised that this was the salary that they paid to IIT campus hires. Felt a little demotivated, Also, the culture here isn’t exactly good and sometimes gets quite toxic. However, I kept commited to my work, and come March 2023, I got a 10% appraisal, for which the VP personally had a conversation, I conveyed that I had higher expectations considering I joined at lower pay (1/n)

I am a Product Designer at an Edtech Startup (raising 20m Series B soon) with almost a year (1) of full time experience but overall almost 3 (including internships) at some great companies. As I am looking for a change what salary should I expect? Considering:- - I have a design degree from a Non-IIT/Non-NID Tier 1 University (known for good engineers) [so good foundation hopefully] - The companies I have interned at range from Japanese MNC/Conglomerate, Indian Fashion focused E-Commerce Giant, Indian Food Tech/Delivery Giant & an Indian Digital Transformation Giant. - The average stipend I earned at these companies was around 40K/month. - The salary I earn right now every month is between 70 - 90K - I believe I have Got good Product focused UX knowledge. [Part of the Product team not a seperate Design Team] - Not another Figma/Framer drooling Designer. - Many of my peers from my alma mater are placed in Big Tech or Desi Giants owned by Foreign Giants So what salary should I be expecting? (Keeping aside the ESOP/RSU part) Is ~ 1.25L/month in hand is right ask? Please suggest.

Amazon overhiring I am doing 6 month internship at Amazon right now.What I personally feel is they have overhired .We all now that they overhired sde1 in 2022 leading to the layoff right now but they also hired too many interns.I don't know the reason maybe use and throw.

My background: Hey! I am in my final year, I did a summer internship at a software firm as a SDE role for 1 lakh stipend. And I got a full time offer for 26 LPA after graduation which will be in May’24 I applied for internship in a startup for working until my graduation, it was for the same role i worked during my internship. During a phone call interview right now, he asked me how much you’ll be expecting when you join full time, so I mistakenly revealed my offer and how much i m expecting. He made me compare the 12 lpa which this startup can give to maximum and 36 lpa which is my ctc offer in another company. I told him that I am ready to do a internship now at a lower money(50k), but after a year, depending on the situations of the startup, we can negotiate on the salary if can get a competitive one. What should I do now? Please give me suggestions on how should I had negotiated, and did i do anything wrong by revealing my another offer from another company.? What should be my next steps?

Heard absurdly low stipend comp numbers from a few candidates. I want to pay more than this but need to provide market justification. What is the usual range for monthly stipends for backend dev interns at startups?

Genuinely curious! Like I graduated about 4 years ago from an NIT and started with 40k pm for an analytics role, now everyone I see is earning atleast 12lpa after tax?

Right now, you see lots of freshers having big salaries. So kind of stuck as to what should be the expected salary of a 2+years exp software developer?

I’m a final year student based out of India, and am currently doing the last month of my internship at a SF based startup. As the only DevOps engineer, and being quite skilled at at (at least according to myto YoE), I was getting paid around 2 LPA per month as a part time intern for the past 6 months. I recently got another 3 month internship offer from a foreign company, and I’m taking it since I don’t want to get stuck at remote job in India, and explore some abroad companies as well before I settle. Pay there is also quite good, but I don’t wish to take FTE there as I have to live in India only (family reasons, rural background, younger siblings and their study, etc.) Now when I finally start my job hunt in the final days of my winter internship, what should be the pay I expect from Indian / Remote companies? Considering I was getting paid a fair amount as mentioned above even in a part time role. Or was I overpaid and I should keep my expectations low or equal to it in a Full Time Role?
