I am pleb level data engineer with experience in analytics . Been around 4 years now been on below average level growth  of salary and knowledge  . Looking forward to big move  but not sure how to approach it.  Any advice you got? 

I feel like i can grasp thing better than my coworkers but that might be because i am in a pond nor a big sea. 
Any of you feel same?

I like coding but not way too much.  (7 on a scale of 1 -10)
I love communicating and organising/managing stuff(9 on a scale of 10)


I love working with data but I dont want to be a generalist/data analyst.

I would like to make good money

Seeking Advice: Data Science

It's almost been one year since I starting working as a data analyst (first job overall) at a saas startup. It's been good so far, learnt a lot about business as well as data, but feeling kinda saturated now. I find growth/ product roles to be more attractive (direct impact on the growth of the org). But I'm an unsure where to start, and what are the skill sets that I need to have. Being in data I'm well versed with SQL, data pipelines and some business functions as well. If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to share!

Software Engineer

Hi All,

I have 6 YOE. Initial 2.5 years I worked as Backend developer in Python, Django, AWS and Little bit JS.
After that all of my experience is in Data Engineering mostly in GCP (have few certifications as well.)
Currently I am working at Walmart.

Most of the work I do in Data side is adhoc and projects are also not upto the expectations lot of manual work is also there. I am not really enjoying my career as data engineer. Pay is good.

I am thinking to move back to Software Engineering, 
1. is it a good idea for long term? 
2. What skill should I focus on if I have to move back? 
3. Is it just the projects that I am working on making data engineer look less interesting to work ?

Data Engineering to SWE

I'm a data scientist and very disgruntled with my current team and manager. It's very clear I would not like to grow in my current team in the long run. A lateral move to another team wouldn't really benefit me (esp. my compensation). I've made a decision to skill up and look for opportunities outside. 

For context -I am currently making 21lpa at a bank. I have about 2 years of work ex. When I joined my org two years ago, I was making about the same and so I've seen barely any salary growth in the last two years.

Questions:

1. Does the market pay higher than this for a data scientist with 2 years of experience? What companies to focus on?

2. What should I focus on to clear interviews? My current was through campus placement so I'm not very experienced with looking for jobs on my own.

Transitioning to Data Engineering

Hey Grapeviners,

I need your wisdom! I'm currently in an engineering team at my company, but I feel like a fish out of water (no learning at all). I’m constantly scratching my head trying to understand tasks and communications. It’s like everyone’s speaking in code – literally and figuratively!

My real passion? Data analytics. I dream of diving into data pools, not wrestling with the programming geeks. I've told my manager about my analytics ambitions, but I'm still stuck in my current role, learning things I know I won't use as an analyst. It doesn't even interest me to do a simple google search about the stuff they are using. 

I want to talk to my manager about:

My struggles with the current role.
My career aspirations and where i want to go
Moving to a data-focused team.
Still helping out with my current duties during the transition.
Has anyone been in a similar boat? How did you navigate the waters? Any tips on how to have this conversation without rocking the boat too much?

The work fluctuates a lot but at no point I felt the work I'm doing is adding to my learning.
