Product management career
What do you think How much difficult is it to enter Product Management as a fresher?
A lot of posts here suggest to have some experience of a core role before entering Product Management.
What should be a good path?
Additional info if required 2nd year in Tier-2 Know basics of both JS and SQL Python
I worked as a quant for a HFT and then switched to PM after a tier 1 MBA. My 2 cents is don’t plan to become a PM by adopting a formula as it really won’t distinguish you from others. Figure out an area of expertise or interest such as Design / Data / Domain etc and then it’s easier to become that much more valuable. I see others who’re better suited to become a PM than me but what worked in my favor was domain knowledge and an MBA degree which is just sanity check for many founders these days.
Got it. Thank you
Genuinely curious, what made you decide to pursue mba and switch to PM? Considering that you were in quant I assume you would be getting paid handsomely.
I have a tier 1 admit this year, but I'm not able to decide if I should join or not. My friends are suggesting that the opportunity cost isn't worth it, since I could earn more than what I'll get post MBA just by switching frequently, and also PM transition can happen internally within tech.
On the other hand, my parents and relatives suggest that the degree, tag, and alumni network is gonna help in the long run.
Between data and frontend both is useful ,I will suggest to go for frontend cause once you become a PM you won’t get to see the code but you still will need to know how it works , and data can be learnt on the job.
What if I already know how it works?
I am pretty much familiar with Computer Network, Operating System, I have frontend projects under my belt and I am about to master NodeJS.
Data stuff did in school. But still can write SQL queries haf asleep.
Only MBA can save me now ?

I see most of my batchmates are into tech. None of them are interested in product management. So I wanted to give it a try.
