Not sure how i should feel about it now. I can't even ask them directly and appraisal cycle is 8 months to go.

I completed 3 months in the organization, and appraisal season started, how to tackel  questions of how much hike should I get or ask for? 

If I don't ask I will be stuck until like 15 months on same salary. How to deal with it.

I recently switched my job, and my new employers were asking if I could refer someone and I reached out to my junior (fresher, 1 YOE now) at my previous employer and got his resume and he was asking about how much compensation to expect.

The number he was expecting was 3x of my salary at my previous employer, naively i assumed that his compensation would <= as mine (I was more experienced and my performance was 📈) and told him : "with current market conditions it's difficult for that, you cannot expect 3x" and he tells me it's not 3x but 2x and I was like 😮. The compensation that he was Getting as a fresher was more than what I was getting paid despite having more experience. I had to switch job to get the same compensation that they are offering to freshers.


All this time my ex-manager and lead know about this and never fought on my behalf, I feel betrayed. Now my mood is all f***ed.

Right now I am looking for a new job because of a layoff in my own company. I have recently applied for a new job. I didn't get a hike and they even decreased the basic pay in their shared CTC Structure. The in-hand is the same as my previous company but my basic salary is impacted. Should I accept the offer or let it go?

I wanted to pen down my story, as I have been feeling extremely low for the past two days. I work hard, but still don’t get the results that I deserve
Some background. Did engineering from a tier 3 college(this one’s on me, didn’t study hard in my 12th, hence completely my mistake). During college, I was motivated and determined to do good, and aspired for MS abroad in top university, so that I could get rid of the tier 3 tag(honestly, my undergrad college was so bad that mostly the localites of the city enrolled, and only for the purpose of getting a degree, even mass recruiters didn’t recruit from this campus). I worked hard in my first sem, and this college was affiliated to a state university. In the end sem exam, I was given horrible marks, completely careless checking, significantly reducing my GPA. I applied for reassessment but no change. Apart from that, I kept upskilling, learnt ML. In 4th sem, I was given a backlog(it got cleared when I applied for reassessment). Honestly I would always do well in class and internal exams, but somehow the external examiners always gave unfair marks and had to always apply for reassessment.
In 3rd year, I got an internship of 2 months, but had to cut it down to a month as college had attendance issues. In the final semester I got a 6 month internship at a very good startup, at a very good pay, but again, had to turn it down due to college attendance issues. During final year, wrote a research paper, initially it got rejected, but had to raise contention with the conference committee for unfair evaluation, and after reevaluation by other reviewers, got stellar reviews and paper was published( you see how unfair it is right). I also gave GRE, TOEFL and got decent score, got into 1 so so university but was rejected by 5 others. Didn’t go for it as it was not that great and it was COVID year.
After college concluded, it was COVID time. Continued in comments.

TLDR;

Did B.Tech in ECE from a tier 3 college. In college, explored different avenues and finally found deep learning and computer vision to be the most interesting. Did lots of projects, research paper etc. However, being from a tier 3 college, making a career in this domain wasn’t easy. Graduated in 2020, joined a startup as an intern with a stipend of 35k per month. 6 months later, the internship didn’t convert, although I worked really hard and my manager liked my work.
Joined another startup with a salary of 6.5LPA. Although I had better offers, I decided to go with this one ad they were providing WFH (it was peak covid time). A few months into this startup, I realised the founder had no goal, no vision, was given random  vague projects, founders would pick up any project that their client would somehow talk about, assign it to me without doing any market research, and few months later scratch that. I realised, there was no future here, and for no reason, one of the founder kept micromanaging me (although the colleagues and seniors were great). And by that time, I also realised I was severely underpaid, as one of my close friend, who was a year junior to me was paid higher. I decided to leave that place, during a time of mass resignations in 2022 (the founders did try to retain me, but I was adamant as I didn’t see any vision and founder was too rigid to listen to anyone). I worked there for 1.3 years, at the same salary.

Later on in August 2022, I joined a series C funded startup, with a base pay of 14.5LPA, at nearly 2 YOE. While the hike was well above 120%, in some time I realised that this was the salary that they paid to IIT campus hires. Felt a little demotivated, Also, the culture here isn’t exactly good and sometimes gets quite toxic. However, I kept commited to my work, and come March 2023, I got a 10% appraisal, for which the VP personally had a conversation, I conveyed that I had higher expectations considering I joined at lower pay (1/n)

Hardwork and consistency pays off

The VP did agree to that, and my manager and VP had a few conversations around this topic from time to time. A week back, VP called me and congratulated me, saying that he decided to do a off cycle appraisal for me and gave me 26% appraisal, making my base pay 20LPA. I was on cloud 9. I didn’t arm twist my company, nor did I even ask for a higher pay, I was offered it right away. 
  
 Now many of you might say, dude whats the big deal. People with 2 YOE make 69LPA. Well, good for them. But I just wanted to write this post, To convey that don’t get disappointed when you see such CTC polls on grapevine. Everyone has their time. I’ve had many other failures, I keep trying to move to PM role(after working in startups, eventually gained interest), appeared for CAT(didn’t score that well), tried many things to come out of this tier 3 college status and make a career for myself. Just keep working hard, stay committed to your skills, good Karma, and success will surely follow you.

So when i joined a product based company as SE(backend)  in bengaluru back in 2019 my ctc was 8 .5 LPA( i know maybe less compare to peers back then), now after 4 years got the same amount collating all the bonus we get in current company (in pune) as monthly salary getting all proud feeling but at the same time gerting wired feeling as idk if valye of money has dropped or i was highly underpaid or maybe thats how the progression of payout is or maybe i am still behind should clock that much without a bonus.(which is half my monthly salary)

do let me know if anyone has achieved this and what is your take on this?

Earning ctc in a month

One of my close coworker rather a best friend, recently talked to his manager for promotion. However the hike after promo what manager said was ~25%. However same experience, same team -same experience guy who got promo in last December cycle got fixed around 28-30L. Now he had asked suggestions. He's fixed is coming around 24. 

He asked me how to get fairly treated. Both are having same experience, same team. However the earlier guy joined at higher fixed. Is there any way to see this as he can't compare himself directly.

I am not expecting promotion this year but this seems to be a genuine question to be treated fair.
If any such scenario comes to me , I would simply get an offer and leave. However I want to know the correct approach.

Hike negotiation

I got three job offers for SDE2. I accepted the offer (30LPA) with the lowest pay but loved the interview process, loved how they didn't waste my time (offer rolled in 2 weeks). Even their Google reviews and Glassdoor has 5 stars. Early stage startup, but they have a tech product with a very bright future (seed funded). And culture is amazing, founders are bright.

Second offer was from a mid-sized fintech startup (series C funded). Offer was for 34 lakhs. The interview process was okay but that set me off was that they wanted to conduct another design round after my final Hiring Manager interview as their team categorised my interview as "Weak Hire". They even told me that to my face. 😂 I cleared the subsequent design round but the whole process was lengthy (1 month).

Third offer is from an AI company with horrible glassdoor reviews. They took 2 months of time to finish the entire interview process. Even the product doesn't seem like it will survive in next 4-5 years. Offer from them is 42 LPA.

I got laid off a couple of months ago, so instead of higher pay I went to the company where I could learn more, get good peers, and increase my skillset. I hope that this decision makes sense. I tried to negotiate with Company A but they were unwilling to go beyond 30, I did mention I have other offers which are higher. 

I didn't include the joining bonus and ESOP components in all companies, but they are there.

Please help me decide if I made the right choice

Dunzo has once more failed to deliver on its promise of crediting August salaries today, leaving employees frustrated. Employees were assured on last Thursday that the salaries would be credited today but yet another mail came in with the news of salaries being rolled out by this week. Words are cheap and the leadership hasn’t even addressed any of these concerns since a month now!

Dunzo again says “we regret” for the nth time

Ask them if CXO’s are taking salaries or not, i am sure they would be just making fool of the employees

I’m a software engineer at a mid size company. I have 1y3mo of work ex. Appraisals are around the corner, and although the work is great, the pay not so much. I earn less than 10LPA. How much of a hike should I deserve in this market assuming I have done a good job.

I am a software engineer with 1 year of professional experience and about 2 years of experience counting all my freelance gigs as well as internships.

I’ve identified that I’m good at picking up new technologies easily. I’m also very detail oriented and tend to find the moat optimal solutions even though my current position only expects me to follow the PRD provided by my tech lead.

I find that most of the times, I have had to raise my concerns to my seniors for a change of an approach with me being correct almost all the time by the end of the discussion.

Now I feel confused, that maybe I was being underestimated and therefore underpaid by my employer.

Context: I switched to this company about 6 months ago with a package of 12 LPA and got a mere 5% hike to 12.65 LPA during last month with a promotion from being a technical associate -> software development engineer.
During my meeting with the manager, i was told that my performance was ‘very good’ but since its been only 6 months, they are giving me a promotion to match my skills but not give me a good hike.

Any thoughts?

I'm currently working at a startup in Bangalore. Consider that they are paying me X LPA. All fixed. I've total experience of Mar-October as Intern and October - Present as SDE1. So overall experience of 8 months. This means that my appraisal is due in next 4 months. As per our appraisal policy and as per conversation with my manager I'll receive around 50% of hike. So that will make my CTC as X + 5. But the catch here is that the project which I'm working at is fucked up and this project has highest attrition. Very bad client and constant abuses and abnormal working hour around 12-13 hours daily. Evrything is fucked up and I don't enjoy working here in this project. Project change is also out of question as no one will take this.

I've received an offer from Health startup eka.care but they are offering X+3 that too with lot of negotiation. The work culture is superb, the tech stack is fun and great, people are nice and team is highly qualified and great. 

I don't know what to do? I don't want to keep switching the companies every now and then. It's true that current org is paying and they will pay even more post appraisal but the work is not good and I don't like the work. New org work is good and I really want to join but they are not paying great, I mean the 30% hike is decent but if they pay X+3 then I would have to look for job again after 8-9 months because I'll be really needing money at end of 2025.

My total experience:
8 months - If intern can be counted then 14 months.

Please suggest me what to do? If I constantly switch in 6/8 months then that would deter other recruiters to contact me because I've made very unstable choices. I'm confused what to do, if any of you have been in such situations then please suggest.

Should I prioritise money? Work? Both? What about my profile? So much confusion is there and really I'm awaiting your inputs.

Confused on what to do next

I have been working as engineering manager in a startup. I was promised remote job but now company calling to office location. In current year, the company didnt give more then 5% salary growth and keep promising growth in the future as company grows but do founders or top management really care about employees? 

I seen one of my ex company its happening but not sure if founders really keep their promises about employees will get salary growth as company grows. I feel they take lavish salary but keep the employees underpaid.

Let me know your thoughts or your own experience. Work life balance is good though so I don’t want to really leave the company it actually it happens

I recently interviewed at an MNC and my interviews went great. They also gave a case study.
At the time of final negotiation for salary, i asked for standard 40-45% hike. However they took some time and came back with an offer of almost 95%-100% and literally more than that if i include yearly fixed bonus component.

This was a big surprise to me, and they states that we have done this taking care of pay parity, etc.

I am very happy, 
However, i want to know is this common or happened with anyone else?
Are there such good companies, people and HRs...

Anyone having any thoughts on this?

Hi! So I had been interviewing for a startup and I finally heard back from them with an offer but the numbers are way below my expectations. I had quoted a 25% raise from my prev pay of 1.5 years — which I know from folks around would have been their budget for the role as well. 

But they have lowballed me offering me a 10% increase on my base pay + no ballpark on the variable bonus. Now I am confused about a few things 

1. They said they normally just offer a 10% hike on prev salary to all new joinees (which is a little shady to me bec I’m sure they had a budget of their own for each role) 

2. They are saying my year end bonus will be based on performance but are not even giving me a ballpark (bonus could be a 10K INR also and a month’s salary also. The range is huge) 

3. They are saying the reason they don’t offer market standard right on joining is because in the past even after rigorous rounds of interviews, they have seen poor performers in the team despite the good pay. 
(My question is: how is that my problem and not your hiring manager’s? Because you have been historically bad at setting up a good hiring process and judgment - is not MY PROBLEM. This just reeks of your low trust in me even before I have joined. And I don’t know if that’s a great thing) 


Final question: is this giving 🚩🚩? Please help me assess + also any other reccos on how to handle or negotiate this bec as much as the role is exciting to me, the numbers are just not pleasant
