Guidance on navigating down cycles

Someone in ur team or someone u had good relationship (work wise) with gets laid off? Do u discontinue working as hard? Does ur team velocity decrease or increase as everyone does better for survival? Just wanna hear from folks who have gone through this and does employer not see any affect in work? (E.g. Twitter case)

I've been sensing some uncertainty at my workplace, and it's making me think about preparing for the possibility of layoffs. 1. How does one manage uncertainty before a layoff, and what should be the mindset? 2. What practical steps do you take financially ? Any insights on budgeting? 3. In a job transition, how do you proactively develop skills while managing work I would like to hear your thoughts and advice on how to be well-prepared mentally, financially, and skill-wise for possiblity of layoffs

Have any of you taken a career break and got back to work? Did you see any loss? Discrimination? Difficulty? Is it right decision to take a career break? I have no problem with savings I have it plenty. Am just worried about losing everything if there is a gap in my work timeline and if that will impact me from being hired again from say top firms or wherever? Please help.

I would like to discuss the coping strategies people use when suffering from prolonged unemployment. Please share your stories as a guide for others I left my job in December in a pre seed startup and unable to find a new one. Got few interviews but end up being ghosted. I have 3 years of experience as a product manager in fintech Startups but currently no leads in pipeline I am distressed due to prolonged unemployment I am facing with uncertainty about the future. How would you recommend someone to cope with this situation

For some context: I have about 4.5 YoE & 3 years directly in product along with Master’s level qualification. Primarily have worked with early stage start ups and have experienced similar challenges in each so avoiding this segment and red flag companies (taking Glassdoor, ambition box reviews as the basis here) But a few people/seniors are suggesting to consider any opportunity with any kind of company as the market is bad. So wanted some perspective on the risk of career gap on resume vs being stuck in a similar company and going through the same job search process maybe 6 months or a year down the line? What would be a better trade off? P.S: Currently I am able to focus on overall up skilling and whatever is needed to clear job interviews and have decent financial security & runway. Any advice/perspectives are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Goin through a mid-career crisis atm. Overall exp 18 yrs in a mnc bank drawing close to 60 laks CTC. But the growth is stymied and don’t hv visibility of what’s the Development path and how can I get there. Mulling to take a break and prioritise but have some leverage to manage and kids savings. Wife is working atm but draws significantly lower than me so will have lifestyle challenges if I quit. Open to hear suggestions from folks if you’ve had similar experiences and how you managed it?

Have been hunting for a job for a while. Non tech background and completed mba in 2022. Open to working in sales, marketing and no industry preference as such! I keep hearing news that some companies are hiring in bulk and some have hiring freeze. So is this the time to upskill into one of the trendy things or keep looking for a job ? Advise, experiences and informs about companies hiring is most welcome!

I know this will sound like a very biased opinion but just sharing my 2 cents of today’s market. The way with highest probability of success, money and ensuring a better future for your future generations is to startup. It has the highest risk, highest reward. But in today’s landscape: where inflation is always higher than your hike, there’s no guarantee of employment even in next 1 years, the effort to remain in top 1% is humongous and many other reasons like that, really make me feel that if you’re able to start a company and even capture 0.1% of market who’s willing to pay something for your service/product, that’s all you need. Of course the struggle doesn’t end there and you have to keep working for as long as possible? But your capacity to earn and provide for generations to come is much higher than working for someone else. All disagreement is welcome :) Just tired of running this race for years now and still never feeling financially secure.
