Has anybody tried staying less available at work for better wlb?

How do you define work life balance boundaries at work? Everyone in my team works 10-12 hrs daily, it’s business as usual for them. I joined recently and it’s very problematic for me, I literally get no time to do anything else. I fear, that if I highlight this I’ll be singled out. Some people even feel very proud in doing so which I don’t understand. Don’t they want to go back home to their family and spend time with them? Please provide guidance on how to set these boundaries and am I thinking right?

I see a lot of posts about WLB, I want to know what do you consider as a decent WLB. I will go first. 1. Leave early if the work for that day is done 2. No pings and calls post work hours, there are always exceptions and thats okay, should not become a norm 3. Respecting when someone is in vacation and not disturbing them. 4. Not rejecting leaves I will add more in comments If more comes to my mind.

Hi, I am struggling to balance between work and personal life.I am losing people from my life because of too much time I have to give to work. I am not able to give time to my health or my parents.Tried multiple ways but not able to get out of this loop. Sometimes I skip meals too. I make to do list, I plan everything but nothing goes as per plan . A lot of adhoc urgent things come everyday, alot of people , a lot of pings sometimes I don't even get time to think just hoping from 1 meeting to another.I thought of changing my team but not even getting time to prepare.please help me to get out of this loop.

Work-life balance, as I thought it to be in the start of my career is basically for me to work for a maximum possible part of my working hours and never any more than that. Life had a higher priority than work so I used to always involve is smart work and kind of planned "under estimate, over deliver". Rest of the "life" contributed to study and enjoy freedom alternatively. I slowly started to feel, that's not the way. Currently, with a ~4 yoe, I partially think the "Narayan Murthy"s around us aren't wrong. WLB is subjective, at the very start of your career you should hardly look out for it (doesn't mean to work your as* off for the employee with peanut salary, no) but don't expect to work for 8 hrs a day and chillax the rest. To me, it comes in phases and I'm okay with it. There could be a month or few when you might work 70+ hours a week, and then there could be a month where there's hardly any work. Just keep the smartwork going, but don't time yourself at the early stages. Learn and earn as much as you can, so someday you can gift your grandchild a few million ₹ as well. Its completely my perspective, probably because I've been blessed with the my kind of work as a SDE. Let me know, what's your take?

Seen many reviews about companies having a good or bad WLB. As a fresher, I would love to know what experienced people consider a good work life balance and how important it is while judging a company? Any other factors to consider?
