Hi, I have taken sabbatical leave for 6 months for a full time tech course. I planned this for shifting my career from cloud admin to software developer. I think this course has helped me a lot to understand the basic knowledge of different technologies related to full stack development. It is really hard to learn that only 6 months of course is promising to teach these many technologies but it was worth it to learn. 
  
 While applying for sabbatical, I had to take confirmation from my tower head and HR head for our dept. It was smooth as all were agreeing on my leave. 
  
 Still I am on leave so can't comment on the return part of leave. But before joining I have to inform the company so that they can look for the  projects where they can tag me.

Want to discuss if sabbatical being a taboo is valid and peoples opinions of it.
I will start with mine
Background - 
8 years in tech 
3 company switches 
Sabbatical of 1 month, 3 month and 6 month between each break.
Personal experience - quite enriching. Though there was panic and anxiety of not having a job during the period, it truly helped me take a step back, reassess my career trajectory, and mostly just Destress and re prioritise

Every now and then i loose my true love for tech and product and the sabbaticals helped me to rediscover that by just reading about technology that was not outcome driven ( like for switching a job) 
Quite rewarding each time in terms of salary jumps also. I think i was able to make a better case for myself at a particular position just because i had more time to process stuff from last job. 
It also helped me make better decisions for next thing which has in general helped me shape my career better ( i think atleast)

2 mo in, I've been focusing on my health -(gymming, meditating, eating right), travelling and relaxing. Indifferent to weekdays and weekends life feels really nice and happy.

I am hoping for a sabbatical from my consulting job for my mental health for 1.5 months. Folks who have experience with this- do sabbaticals generally ever affect promotions or performance based incentives? How should i proceed in such a situation?

Planning to take an unpaid sabbatical due to health reasons, employer has agreed for the same, just need to understand this aspect.

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. 
   Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well.

Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?

Has anyone here with Tech work experience (India) (not from MAANG or any reputed companies, or tier 1 colleges ) taken a career break for personal reasons ? Not talking essential leaves maternity break or something like that, but more like for well being/upskilling/travel etc, whatever it maybe. Could you share your experience ?

What was your experience like getting back to work/interview experience ?

I am considering taking one myself. I know this is normalised on Europe, but I feel in India, many people  (esp. some recruiters) find this weird and most people are even scared about taking a break.

Ppl that have taken 3+ months of sabbaticals for burn out have you felt better after that ? I have to take a decision btw sabbatical for 3 months or quitting. While I like my current work place and manager I am not sure if by taking a sabbatical I am forcing myself to feel better in 3 months. This is a troubling attitude I have towards sickness mental or physical where I put a future end date to it and then feel worse off if I don't meet it.

Hi everyone 

I'm preparing for my MBA, and to focus on my exams, I decided to quit my job last week 

 My company the offered me a 3month unpaid sabbatical, end date falls after my exams, so that I can study, but after these 3months, my job may or may not be confirmed, chances are high for the latter

I have a medical problem which recently aggravated, and the company stated that they can provide the necessary documentation for my extended leave using this.

I just wanted to check, what would be the  better option, to continue with my decision of quitting or taking the sabbatical leave. Will the Sabbatical leave on grounds of medical reasons effect my job hunt down the line?

My fear is that during my sabbatical, they will have the flexibility to contact me as and when necessary.
