 Just say it that it can be done in two parts as it takes a large time , as always two parts cant be done in one sprint so you will have time to finish

The thing is I’m mostly given tasks that require lot of debugging, sometimes I get stuck. End of the sprint it looks bad on me as I have tickets remaining on my sprint goal. Project manager doesn’t understand complexity. I don’t know how should I navigate this situation

First check all the tickets which one is done easily do that stories/tickets and heavy stories only take if it has much priority 
  
 Don't take too much time and say the things at the last day of sprint, he will get mad . Just whenever you start and understand the complexity say that on standup and ask to increase points or make it two points because rollover will make negative impact

Hi guys,

My question is that when the client releases the requirements for the project, in our company we have to estimate and then give those estimates to the client, if they are happy, they give us a project else look for a  different service provider.

But how can I give 100% proper estimation when I have never worked on that project, currently there is a project where we have to upgrade Java version of the app, I don't know how many things will break once I do it and the Project manager wants me to estimate it. 

But I don't know how can I give an estimate to him, what if I give very few days and it turns out many things are breaking, the PM will blame me then for giving poor estimate.

He is already trying to go aggressive on timeline so that our company can get the project.

How do you folks in service based companies deal with these estimation related issues when you haven't worked on the project because the client will give us contract based on those estimation only. Does the contract become void if we are not able to deliver on those estimates, who takes the blame for these?

Sometimes PMs want to change the flow of way things working. They often say it's a small change and will not take much time. They see things on high level, but they don't see what are the logics behind need to change and what are DB migration required and sometimes it is not possible to change because many things dependent on it.

There is this new PM who is making my life living hell. Sets up his own timeline without consulting me how much effort it will take me to execute. The requirements are fuzzy and changes while executing. I am having to delete a ton of my code because they can't keep the requirements frozen.

The problem is that, I am being pulled into meetings all day and I am having to code at night just to keep up with my tasks. My life has become work and I have no time for my self-care.

Haven't gone home in 6 months now. I don't know what to do now.

Save me. Please. I beg of you. What should I do?

how do you guys deal with managers setting up unrealistic deadlines? My manager without even consulting the team about efforts required gave the estimated completion date of the project which is impossible to deliver by that time. I tried to reason with him several times about extending the timeline but he doesn't listen at all. what should i do in this case?

So thing is  In last 1 week my manager/project lead has been threating that you will have to work on weekend if you dont complete your task by friday and put the the task to testing.

And this boils my blood soo damnn much . But as a person who is on lowest level i cant do/say shit. I just disagree with him and dont argue.

And thing is i do all my dev work on time even earlier almost everytime and he just goes around and threatens everyone with this. Soo annoying thay dumbfk needs to get rekt .

As a product manager, what to do when your EM is not supportive and passes the buck to you always, doesn't accept mistakes, instead waits for the chance to blame you instead.
You can't even escalate, because of course you have only one EM. Of course, your team's EM will not change.

Lessons you've learnt during corporate life

This is going to be a broader post directed to a lot of stakeholders, a team will be mostly comprising of FE, BE, product.

When the team misses the deadline because of multiple reasons(Evolving product requirement docs), BE -- Wrong estimations or didn't account for changes like the code has to support landing on moon and taking those photographs. FE -- just assumed simple CRUD operation, didn't account for complexity and multiple API call involved. 

How is it dealt with? who takes the fall and how the situation generally gets salvaged? I think this happens quite often.

PM of 5 years. Same place the whole time. We have a new Engineering Manager. 

They started 2 months ago and at first they seemed like they were very happy to learn our process and products. Then they soon started to manipulate the Engineering team which was very cooperative earlier.

It’s incredibly demotivating. We are a small startup, and the culture isn’t great but seriously no need to be so dismissive of other people’s efforts and feelings. They are just fucking rude. No other word for it really. The problem is that they do NOT get the product side of things so you can’t explain anything to them. They start to physically roll their eyes when you go anymore product than the word “PRD”.

I have never had to deal with someone like this and it’s really stressing me out as they are involved in effectively every project I work on. Advice that isn’t “quit” will be appreciated.

I should also clarify that when I say “product limitations” I really mean how much effort goes into getting things right, the delays are shearing the roadmap apart.

I was currently in a project with no proper planning and the majority of the code written by team mates are full of bugs. The code is being written for a new application not yet deployed or in the testing stage so no way of knowing the bugs.
If I point out the bugs I end up fixing them and it is getting really frustrating. But I can't just look away. I'm 💯 sure this application won't even work. 
Should I just ignore and continue my work?

Hi , this post is intended to be a disclaimer to anyone who is planning to join Yubi. A lot of things are happening here that show some signs of an impending layoff

1) Several senior folks in tech and product have quit. Also there is no replacement hiring planned for them. Several projects are also getting shelved as a result.

2) there were several open roles a few weeks back and almost all of them are on hold as of now across all depts( tech , business , ops)

3) rampant cost cutting. The lunch options have been reduced to just 1 dal , 1 veg , rice and chapati.  Snacks have been removed too.


Because of several folks quitting in less than 6 months and no replacement hiring , load has increased tremendously on existing members who are themselves trying to leave. 

People have serious doubts on whether any hike or bonus will be given or not this year.

I have 1 YOE and I often miss my deadlines which causes spillover. The tasks assigned to me get completed by me, and I face very little difficulty in it.

Also, when someone asks me about a different part of the codebase, I am unable to answer confidently. I tried reading documentation, but couldn't figure out much. But still I do read the documentation sometimes.

I identified distractions and removed them, mostly my phone. But recently I noticed that I still miss deadlines, but the reason for that is I take a long time to figure out the issue/feature that I am going to develop.

So far I have tried
- Removing distractions, by uninstalling SM apps 
- White boarding the issue beforehand
- Communicating better and early.

Things I am going to try
- Use debugger instead of logs(I know, should have done before)
- Document before implementing (Didn't know, that this was a standard practice before)
