I know BCG is a very big brand in the consulting domain. Well How's BCG X for software engineers??

BCG X

Specifically what is the growth prospect for Engineering lead? And what all responsibilities would one have to take? Is it same like taking a lead role at a startup?

Hi Guys,
I  am working as a software developer in Oracle( btech from old IIT) . Its been 2 years and I now want to switch to management consulting (preferable in MBB) to experience it so want to give MBA.

1. I did some research but I want to gain some information on the salary aspect of it. I heard that the salaries are not that high they would probably be in the same range that I am getting now. BUT, I want to know in the long run do consultants get more hikes compared to tech roles? 

2. I heard the wlb is pretty bad so is there some resource that I can study to know if thats the right suit for me since its a big risk I’ll be taking moving on to a different field. There are some good exit opportunities also I believe after MBB can someone tell more about it.

Would really appreciate some answers on this. Its on my head for a long time. Cheers!

Big 4 and other consulting firms weekend work culture and partner calling to help with slides sucks. How many of you are in the same boat?

1. What was your profile before exit - MBA vs Bachelors, how many years at consulting, key reason for exit
2. What industry/ role did you exit in - was it related to any case you did, how did you zero in into the role
3. How is the overall compensation, what is the expected growth rate expected?
4. Do you plan on coming back to consulting in future?

What did you do after an MBB/ similar consulting role

“one company found that its most talented developers were spending excessive time on noncoding activities such as design sessions or managing interdependencies across teams.”

We don't need to spend time on system design and making sure it works across teams! What a time and resources waste.

“To truly benefit from measuring productivity, leaders and developers alike need to move past the outdated notion that leaders “cannot” understand the intricacies of software engineering, or that engineering is too complex to measure. “ 

Corporate dogma at its finest.

I’m deeply, deeply, concerned that my engineers spend too much time thinking!

If only there was an organisation that could charge me millions per day per bum (ideally non-practitioners) to confirm my suspicions in PowerPoint form.

Understanding the problem? Design? Waste of time!!! You need a "software factory" code-test-deploy. From the same guys who predicted the cloud is a fad and everyone should build their own data centre, or cellular tech will never take off. 

Sadly, there would be many listening to them and make changes accordingly and suffer badly.
