How to ask for a promotion/hike mid year?
Hi folks, I’m grossly underpaid and my work output + impact warrants a promotion and a fat hike imo. But being told that this is not possible mid year. What can I do to make it happen? Haven’t had a proper conversation regarding this with manager yet.

What's worked for me is to showcase some work that I've done above and beyond the ask.
And btw. This has to be a constant thing. I think a lot of us feel like if we are in a job then the recognition for our work will happen automatically. You need to keep showcasing your high output (think of this as your personal branding to your managers ) and then have the conversations in a very casual or social setting. Like a dinner or chai break. It's worked for me and I've had decent success.
Hope this helps and if they still don't despite all the efforts know that there are companies that will value your output. Start documenting your work on a personal blog or LinkedIn. It'll help immensely
That’s extremely solid. Thanks so much for such good practical advice. The issue is, I sometimes feel like it’s ‘humble bragging’ and hence don’t discuss the work I put in. But you’re so right - I definitely need to work on this.

Yes and I was under that impression too. I think we should all work on our own personal marketing if we are to make it big in a large company or even a smaller one. A lot of people doing the work, not many marketing theor work.
And just like a great product can't sell itself without good marketing and sales.
We should also work on our own branding and thought leadership to give ourselves a leg up.
Remember regardless of what you're doing.... EVERYONE IS IN SALES.

Have a word with you manager and tell him you want to know what you can do to get a hike. Tell him you want to earn it and feel that you've been pushing your limits last few months.
It really depends on your company and manager. In my case, even I was severely underpaid and my manager recognised this (casually told him one day, without even asking for a hike), and talked to senior management to consider a hike, and I was given 26%, without even asking for it. However, not everyone can be lucky like this, so I would say that if your work has really made an impact, be upfront snd intimate your manager. If this doesn’t work, just look for another job, get the offer letter and resign. If your management felt that you are a necessary resource, they will definitely try to retain you. I recently resigned (because of bad culture), but I was again offered a hike (just 2 months ago I got 26%), however I refused as hike was not the motivation for me.
