3 years back I was in similar situations, can totally relate what you are trying to say... If you want to do MBA, do it's from Top B-School otherwise it's not worth the time,effort and money.

"I’m currently in my 3rd year of BBA in a tier-2 city, but honestly, I feel like I’ve learned almost nothing in college. My attendance for the last three semesters is literally zero, and now I’m doing an internship where, again, I’m not learning much. Even though I’ve done a few marketing courses, I’m still unsure about my future. I’m torn between continuing in marketing or preparing for the CAT exam to pursue an MBA. I need some advice. 

1. I am a fresher and am considering giving the CAT exam this year. 
2. Currently working as a data science intern and frankly, not enjoying it a bit. I dread debugging. I also feel everyday that AI can easily do 75% of my work. 
3. I want some business side roles, thinking I won't have to stare at a screen all day, fixing bugs. 

What roles can I expect after doing a MBA, is it worth the extra 2 years and the money, and if you are someone who can relate to my situation, what are some of the things you enjoy about your work and some things which you absolutely hate. 

I might have completely wrong expectations, so please feel free to correct me.

I am probably earning 2x of what an average T-1 MBA grad makes in India. I'm just not happy in my role and this SDE grind caught me lackin'.

Can you help me determine whether it is still a good bet to get an MBA? Because these normie MBA folks are literally the dumbest people I have seen and I think I can do a better job than them.

I joined an MBA program while I was making close to the average salary of post MBA grads. 
  
 Few things to remember: 
  
 1. Opportunity cost of a 2 year MBA is humongous. The PGP at IIMs will cost you a crore+. Imagine trying to get an ROI on it. 
  
 2. PGP at IIMs are filled with freshers and low work experience folks which naturally means there are very few senior roles on offer. So you may not find the right level after MBA. 
  
 3. It's best to restrict yourself to 1 year programs like ISB's PGP and IIM's PGPX. 
  
 4. Be really sure of what you want from the MBA. You can easily switch to SDM or product roles without MBA. Recommend giving that a shot if you are just tired of SDE

Sorry Guys for the rant just wanted to vent out something 
I don't know what to do in the future. Feels like I am stuck. I am not from a tech background. I did my B tech in Mechanical Engineering and secured a job at Vedanta( In their shitty Steel Unit). It has been 3.5 years and I am stuck in the never ending toxic cycle. I work like a donkey but I never got.any recognition for my work.
Thought of going for an MBA from a top college only. Tried CAT 3 times but couldn't secure a tier 1 college( Last time was getting some Baby IIMs but thought of giving one more try and now I am fucked). 
Neither any career growth nor any learning growth is happening. Tried for a switch but not able to grab any opportunity. 
Even my CTC is too low ( Approx 65k per month) and being a 26 year old guy, when I see people making multiple lakhs I feel sad and dejected. Should have gone for CS during undergrad

If anyone has any suggestions, or some guidance please share. I can't even share this with my parents, they just brush it off. Again sorry for this rant.

Hi! I’m in a huge dilemma and looking out for any advice I can get. I currently have 1.5 years of work ex and want to pursue MBA. 
Im confused if I should complete 2 years of work ex and then quit to do full time mba prep or quit right away to do prep. My quant is weak so I will need a lot of practice to crack CAT.
2 year criteria comes in so that I can keep options like ISB open as it requires a minimum of 2 year work ex. 
Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Career advice required

So I left my job in Jan 2024 after 3.4 yoe.
I wish to switch my profile to HR, and therefore, I wish to pursue an MBA degree.
Now the problem starts:
my family is pressuring me that if I'm unable to convert any good colleges, how will I justify my gap year so I should take up a job.
I don't wish to take up a job since I want to focus entirely on CAT prep.
They are also pressurising me that if I'm unable to convert, then I will have to start from scratch in HR with a low salary and they wish to see me married within next 2-3 years so why would a nice guy marry a girl who is earning 25k-30k a month.
So I'm really stressed out. 
What should I do?
Take up a job and then prepare for entrance, or ignore them and just focus on prep, like what's the solution?
Everyone is talking about the problem, what's the solution?

The average package here is around 3.2L,
I am not confident enough to land this package and I am confused should I start preparing for CAT now or should I focus on my placements preparations, I don't know whether I will be able to get a good college as I don't have any experience,

MBA or JOB

Hi everyone, I am an engineering student of IT (graduating in 2025) at a tier 2 college (a new iiit), and looking at the market conditions I have decided to pursue mba and have been preparing for CAT 2024 for the past 3 months along with placements preparation. 

Although I am pretty confident in my CAT preparation (I am getting decent marks in sectional and full length mocks), still anything can happen. And because of CAT preparation I also can't fully focus on my placement preparation (preparing for ML and data scientist roles). 

To do my best in any one of the two I will have to focus on that one thing so pretty soon I will have to choose one, what should I do? 
Even if I give my best for my placements I don't think I will end up with a job of more than 7-8lpa.(And this is best case)

All of it is very stressful, financially also my family isn't very well to do.

Help me decide.

I am a 2021 graduate. Have worked for 1 year in an ed-tech giant and another year at a startup.
Had a brilliant time in startup, learnt a lot and enjoyed every bit of it until couple of months back, when there were layoffs and some part of the team was asked to leave.
Now I don't enjoy working here because of high amount of work, no wlb and no people to chill with and planning to switch. But with current market scenarios not sure if that's the right choice.
I am also thinking to do an MBA next year probably from tier 1 tier 2 colleges. 
What according to you would be the best path or what you'd have chosen to do here?

Overview: 
Everyone around me, be it old school friends to the people in the bangalore startup ecosystem are planning to or already in the process of doing an MBA. 

What is happening:
Most of the people I know, either are going for a tier 1 MBA in India or colleges like “Carnegie Mellon”/ “INSEAD”/ “NUS” these are really good places. 

Why am I concerned:
I dont have great acade, GEM candidate so I have decided to not pursue CAT at all, and MBA outside India is too expensive. 

I feel like my job and career are going fine with 4 years of professional experience I am making 25LPA in marketing. I am not keen on doing an MBA but I dont want to regret later.

I consider myself to be fairly smart but what happens when I am competing with people who have great brand names on their resume and are actually smart. 

People on GV with more experience, have you gone through this struggle? 


Sidenote: I also have friends who have cleared IIM ABC, ISB and not gone, because they just wanted the admit letter. Which is brave lol!

Rejected BPO offer from TCS and TechM back in 2017. Sitting for six years at home. Prepared for CAT, XAT , IIFT, SNAP, TISS, XGMT, SRCC, NMAT, CMAT. Didn't secure a good percentile. Stopped preparing for MBA entrances and started preparing for govt exams.  Still not able to clear any.  B.com grad with accounting hon. No int in CA/CS. Zero experience at anything.  Currently depressed to a point that I have no energy doing anything. Need help.

I am deeply worried, to the extent of feeling depressed, about my career trajectory. I feel I made a mistake by switching tracks via doing an MBA with 10 yrs exp. I was a QA for a decade and tried a lot to break into PO roles( worked in a product based org on mobile apps for 6 years). It did not work and the director of PM advised me to do the one year fulltime MBA. Not sure why I gave in to his advice, but I gave GMAT and began with an 18 month Full time program at a Tier-1 Bschool. Cracked placement in the first go but got into IT services( not in WITCH), and now I am stuck being a PMO for a client.
Even when I look at my resume, I see a crappy profile, everything is disjointed and makes no sense now. No wonder I get no calls.
I don't want to go back to QA, this Project Management work is shitty( cannot see any learning happening, but the client is happy so I'm stuck in this project. )
I want to move to PM, thinking maybe CSPM can help, not sure where I am headed. 
Any guidance for this middle aged dinosaur 😞

Lost career graph( long post)

I am currently working at an early stage startup as a software engineer and have been working here since around couple of years full time and an internship prior to that. I am getting a decent salary and the work environment is also good.

But While I write this, I have started feeling stagnated and bored at work and feel that I am not growing in career. This is one reason that has led to me start slacking off at work and take long time to complete tasks.😓

However, I don't want this to continue and thus am here for advice. I am trying to apply to various companies but only to receive rejections. Not even getting an interview call. I am planning to prepare for MBA and the exam is in November. But since folks usually prepare for MBA alongwith job so it means I should continue my job if I want to do so which is another problem for me. I am even confused if I want to an MBA since only the product management role out of it attracts me and not the consulting/investment banking once. So I am not sure if I should even do an MBA. 😒

I discussed this with my parents and they asked me to leave job and prepare for UPSC. Honestly, I have some interest in the exam and the job is great as well no doubt but being 26 years old I am not fully sure of taking this call  since it involves a lot of risk.

All this has been causing lot of conundrum in my brain and it would be really helpful if anyone can suggest any things that I am missing out or that can be simplified.🙏

Hey everyone, seeking some career advice here. So, I've been grinding away in the risk domain at a big financial services MNC for about 2 years now ( have total experience of 5 years from similar companies), pulling in around 30 lakhs INR. Recently, I got a bit curious about what else is out there, so I started poking around. But here's the kicker – every HR rep I chat with says my pay is cool, but they're eyeing up MBA grads from fancy schools for the budget I'm looking out for. 

Thing is, I know my stuff. I've snagged awards, jumped up the ladder faster. But now I'm starting to sweat about whether my lack of an MBA is gonna bite me in the rear down the line. Plus, with all the chatter about layoffs, I'm low-key freaking about whether my gig here is as solid as I thought. 

Any advice on how to navigate this maze? Should I bite the bullet and go for that MBA, or stick to my guns and trust that my track record speaks for itself? Appreciate any wisdom y'all can drop!
