I've ranted for years how Indians, illiterate and white collar alike are too bad at a lot of things:

1) Traffic sense: Lane discipline, honking, rash driving, both private and commercial, parking and vendors taking up half the road, creating fatal blind spots
2) Public places: Spitting, littering, peeing, smoking
3) Basic civic sense: Queuing up, not using loud phones in public transport etc
4) Pets and stray animals: Totally irresponsible behaviour and irrational takes on killer dogs and dangerous bulls

Pointing out things has been done for years. Where's the solution? How can this be taught to the masses?

Give suggestions.

Don’t you think it’s kinda not fair to tax people especially in metro cities who earn less than a lakh a month. The cost of living in these places are already so high and due to that they may not even be able to make any investments. 12 Lakh kinda sets a good entry level for taxes as 1 Lakh is a decent amount to live by I guess. 


Just looking to hear opinions on why it would not be beneficial that’s all. Not willing to hear or respond to any SJWs who want to act all high and mighty on the internet.

Recently I was evaluating a secondary vehicle and observed that - Thar is increasingly becoming a middle class masculinity exhibit. More valid for people those who don’t have any other personality traits. Black Thar with tints is king of this segment in tier 2/3 cities. 

Kudos to Mahindras for monetising the inflated egos and adding an unsafe product to Indian roads. Ladder-case chasis in the first place proves the vehicles isn’t designed for roads. Ingress/egress issues, wide body and poor controls is something to add. At the same time, I am surprised no other player is trying this “fastest growing” segment. Suzuki tried with jimny, but it looks timid and not worthy alpha-male projections. Tatas going in coupe-ish direction.

Recently Uber launched Audio Recording feature for the rides which would provide an added layer of safety on an ongoing trip. 

As per Uber, all audio recordings are encrypted and stored securely on your device. Your recording will be locked, and no one—not your driver, not Uber, not you—has access to it. Uber can only access the recording if you report an incident and choose to share the recording. Uber does not share these recordings with third parties and these recordings are only used to resolve safety concerns.

Few issues I see with this feature
1. Consent - Consent from both parties of being recorded. Since the feature doesn’t notify passengers or drivers when recording starts, I believe consent plays a big part. 
2.  Since Uber is going to share these with law enforcement agencies this could go sideways and Uber might receive too many summons from law agencies to share such recordings or this might see an increase in false complaints. 
3. Storage - Uber using phone storage instead of in-app cloud storage. 
4. Data handling - We have seen data breaches in past. This questions what if scenarios.
5. Inability to share recording until after the trip might be a limitation in cases where immediate intervention or reporting is required. 

I know this is nice feature and would definitely deter any untoward behaviour by a driver or passenger but I want to understand is this the step in right direction?

Bro, you are earning. Shouldn't you just be grateful that you are not born in war torn Afghanistan or disease ridden Africa. I mean life could be so much worse. In fact, the only difference between you and the office boy is the household you were born in. If that office boy was born in your home, he probably would be as successful as you. 

You already won the lottery. Why not just do your part and pay the income tax so that the tax money can be used to provide a better life to those who are unprivileged.

I am not excusing the corruption in the system but just find the cribbing unbearable

Oh, I thought this must be some smart argument, the moment I read “difference between you & the office boy is the household…”.  
  
 No bro, it’s no so simple. People work hard to make a living. People crib about taxes because some of us are paying ‘first world rates with third world facilities’. Only single digit % of population is bearing the load of rest-of-population. Even corporate tax rates are < Salary tax rates.

Just visited Mumbai last weekend, it has somehow gotten worse over the last 5-6 years. Every 3rd or 4th road is either under construction or unusable. 

This girl from bumble legit defended Mumbai being safer than other metros literally after an illegal billboard fell on innocent people.

The "spirit of Mumbai" is Stockholm syndrome, most of the victims/residents just don't know it or have grown numb to it.

Every year people die on local train tracks and platforms, no one cares enough to do anything concrete about it.

Mumbai and Bangalore are both spiralling towards being borderline unliveable. Delhi NCR too to an extent. But the unfortunate reality is that they are economic hubs, hence people are forced to work there.

Decentralisation is the need of the hour, tier 2 and 3 cities must prepare themselves for reverse migration in the next few decades. I'm planning the same for myself if all goes well. It's not worth slowly dying in poisoned cities.

I tried Ola ebike service for commuting a short distance ~ 5km. The experience was good and the fare was also cheap(50 Rs.). 
I spoke to the driver about earnings and whether he has to give EMI for the OE bike. Then he showed me the below table - how his earnings are calculated. 

I got shocked at seeing the high earnings amount - upto 4.5K daily which amounts to 1.35 lac monthly! 
He told me that Ola ebike is for short distances only - Upto 7-8 kms. And he is able to get average 3-4 rides in 1 hour, and he also doesn't have to pay for the vehicle rent. The Charging is also free at Ola Chargers. 

I couldn't help but wonder how can Ola sustain with this much spending. If they're giving upto 1lac to every driver and charging the user very less, that's a lot of cash burn.
