I have been trying it for 3-4 months now. But i couldn't get progress on it. Something always comes up and I keep on postponing it. I have done freelance projects but putting it on a portfolio as a UX case study with Research has become a tedious part.

Context- I’m 30 YO. Have 4.5 years of overall experience and 3.5 years in User Experience Design. Ive got a background in physical product design & I landed in UX due to non availability of 3D projects in TCS.

My leaning in UX since 3.5 years has been hands-on.
I’ve worked for a client for almost 3.5 years as a user experience designer. I used to work in silo 95% of the time and hence didn’t know the right YX methodology to use during the UX research process, didn’t know the rights questions that I need to ask to both the stakeholders and users as I didn’t educate myself through any online courses regarding the same. Before I graduated, I was told be a few friends that ‘UX is doable and it’s very easy up learn. If you can pursue physical product design, you can easily do UX.

Fast forward 4 years, I’m compiling all the work I’ve done for the client and I’ve realised a lot of loopholes and lack of depth both in the design process and in the designs. Neither I asked the right questions during the User interview nor my design fully solves the user’s problems completely. I have to add these 2 projects I d worked for the client as I need to showcase real world projects in my portfolio.

I want to switch not just due to bad pay. I want to switch for better exposure, for growth and to learn to work in a team.

I can’t go to the client and gain more clarity on the needs and requirements of the project as I no longer work with them.

I will re-educate myself regarding the user research methodologies, best UX practices , UI design principles etc.

But how do I showcase these projects which are flawed and has a lot of loopholes?

Late realisation regarding projects I’ve worked on for the client . I feel I’m screwed . How do I get out of this situation ?

I attended his portfolio cracking session yesterday. He took a dig at Growth School’s program. The walkthrough of his mentee’s portfolio wasn’t a conventional one. It looked like the UX process was explained in detail. Although his agenda was to find mentees for his mentorship program, I wonder if it’s worth joining his cohort.
I struggle with the UX process as I did it get to enough user study ans follow a process when it comes to design. I am kind of stuck between learning this by myself or join a mentorship program. I have an experience of 3.5 years in UX and I sometimes feel mentorship is too late for men.

How is the UX mentorship program by Girinath Gokulavasan?

After trying for 2 months, and applying to over 30+ internships, I've failed to land a single internship which is paid. Last week two recruiters  shortlisted me and both of them gave me a task - 

1. To design a music festival website with specific requirements 
2. To design a edtech platform which incorporates gamification

The deadline was 24-36 hrs for both of them. I did the first task, submitted on time. Received no reply. I was left with no motivation to do the 2nd task, as it was even bigger than the 1st task. 

I urge PMs, Product Designers and everyone really to take a look at my portfolio and Behance and let me know where am I lacking. Am I really than incompetent in this space?

Tl;dr: My 3rd year B.Tech is going to start from this month and I failed to get an internship during summers. Feeling very incompetent.

I don't think I have a future in India. In about 2 years, proposals for marriage will start coming for me and family members will start harassing me for it. Also, would like to find a partner (which is quite impossible here). I am a product designer and want to move out of this country as soon as the job market is stable.

How can I move to US/Western Europe apart from doing masters as a product designer? Do companies hire product designers from other countries? Or is it more easy as engineer?

Please don't troll here, I am already depressed all the time and can't handle it more

Gay and want to move abroad as a product designer. How can I do it?

I don't know if it's the company I'm working at, or the projects I'm working on or it's my ADHD but I feel I don't enjoy UI/UX. I feel I lack the trait where one gives tiny attention to details as I have 'chalega / chaltha hai' attitude. I also realized I hate sitting in front of the screen for long hours. I loved physical product design and had to switch to digital product design due to circumstances that were not in control.
I honestly don't understand computers much. I neither enjoy designing app interactions, think about the business aspect of the UI / UX, metrics etc. I sometimes feel like this field isn't for me and I don't know why.

I neither have the privilege's to switch to a new field. I am a slow learner and I admit that I don't have a sharp mind - thanks to ADD. I am 30 YO and I feel like a 22 year old college grad. 
I have responsibilities on my shoulders and I can't take a break, be on a sabbatical, or resign. I have 4 YOE on the paper but I feel like I just have 2 YOE.

All I can do now is to learn things I don't enjoy and love the work I do as I have to work and bring bread on the table. I have been telling I will switch since 2-3 years and I am yet to do it. I've noticed that it's all about skills that's stopping me. I feel lethargic and bored to learn something new that I feel is though, boring or something that takes me lot of time to learn. Since the last 4 years, I haven't designed a since mobile app screen and I have been in the comfort zone of just designing for desktops. I feel intimidated by seeing apps screenshots in Mobbin and realizing that UI design is a craft that takes learn to learn, I just procrastinate learning app UI design.

My pay is low to live a comfortable life in a tier 1 city.  I need to switch to a different company. I lack UI design skills and hence I lack confidence in myself. I regret wasting my time and at the same time, find the process of learning UI design tough. How do I overcome this?

How do I cultivate a mindset to learn things I don't enjoy and love the work I don't like?

Hey everyone, I am a Junior FE Dev (from my prev work title coz my exp is 1YoE). Have been working extensively on React.JS and Redux. My previous company was great. I was loving it. Sadly a few months ago, I was laid off. I still don't know the reason behind why I was one of the laid off people. Anyway, I moved on from that depression and started searching for a new job from last month. Made it to final rounds in pretty much every interview I sat for. But then got rejected in final round for crazy reasons including "we currently don't have funds to hire you". One of them even said they are on hiring freeze, literally in the final round 🥲. 

Haven't been able to get a job anywhere. I don't know if my skills aren't enough to be hired or is it something else. "What's hot in FE right now ? Like what skills can fetch me a job ?" - Started asking this myself as well as some of my good friends, but they say don't learn skills for getting job, learn it for yourself. Though it's true, I don't have much savings to support myself for atleast a month. So, I have to get into a job to keep myself from going bonkers under the financial crunch that I can clearly see ahead of myself if I stay unemployed in the next 20 days.

Yes, the tech market is in its winter season. I understand that, but I still see there are so many openings in the market for ppl with 1YoE like me and skillset that matches mine, yet I never hear back from them or just get rejected in final rounds 😕.

I'm absolutely clueless on what to do right now. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

I'm a final year Interaction Design student. With 2-3 years of experience and currently freelancing. I aspire to enter Fang companies with less than a year left for me to grab a decent 6 month internship for the final semester and work there, I currently am freelancing as a UI and Graphic Designer at a startup and I honestly hate it, since I see no growth in terms of work there, and I really want to get into a larger company to get the exposure for growing in my field since it's been stagnant I feel. As a final-year Computer Science Engineering (CSE) graduate with a deep-seated passion for UX design, I find myself at a crossroads. Despite my academic background, I've always been towards drawn the creative and problem-solving aspects of UX design. This led me to self-learn and gain practical experience in the field, amounting to a solid 1.03 years of hands-on UX design work.

However, the journey to secure a full-time UX design role has been challenging. The reality is that most Indian colleges do not offer design placements, making it difficult for aspiring designers like myself to find opportunities within the campus. The off-campus job market, on the other hand, is highly competitive, making it tough to secure a UX job with a satisfactory CTC.

I've tried reaching out to HR professionals from top startups like Cred, Nearbuy, and others via LinkedIn and email, but the response has been lukewarm. Even when my portfolio and resume were well-received, as was the case with a representative from Accenture, the lack of openings for interns and the unavailability of full-time positions or Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) have been roadblocks.

Despite these challenges, I remain undeterred. I believe in the power of persistence and the value of the skills I've acquired. I'm confident that the right opportunity is just around the corner, and I'm eager to contribute my UX design skills to a team that values creativity and innovation.
