I currently work as a Solution Consultant in one of the Top MNCs for Digital transformation
I have been thinking for a while to move into a consultant role in one of the MBBs 
Current experience 4 years.

Can anyone suggest ? Anyone working in MBB can we connect?

Transition into MBB?

Software Engineer

Insight #1:
"Build as much pedigree as you can."

This means going to the right schools, the right clubs, the right academics and the right extra-curriculars.
This also means that you need to get good brands on your resume early and fast. Working in NA, EMEA, Singapore and Australia is typically a plus point.

You typically need to go to M7 schools or IIM-BLACKI or ISB to even have a remote shot at getting in.
This means great GRE/GMAT scores are a necessity. This also means that you need to really nail your LORs. Finally, you need to have exceptional spikes that changes the way people perceive you and your potential translating into a resume. 

Insight #2:
"They care about optics a lot."
The way you look, speak and conduct yourself is probably the biggest thing you can do to improve your odds of getting in. Being at the right places is important. This means if you are already in social circles with Management Consulting folks then some of their habits will rub off on you. This also means that playing Tennis, going to the Gym, going Golfing/Squash/ whatever rich guy sport, the right parties, restaurants and clubs is an underrated advantage.


Insight #3:
"Prepare for Case Interviews"
Case interviews are a crucial part of the consulting recruitment process. Practice solving case studies and seek guidance from mentors or resources to improve your case interview skills. 'Case in Point' is your fucking bible and you need to make sure that you can work your way around guesstimates and reach a conclusive solution in an insight driven manner.

Insight #4:
"Be prepared to walk away."

MBB is not the end of the world and you can out do your peers in terms of Money earned per unit effort spent easily in other fields. So, don't care about what happens. Double down on your Plan B instead.

But if you want to travel the world, walk shoulder to shoulder with some of the smartest people in the business then it is not a bad option.

I have always been wanting a career in management consulting or strategy consulting companies like McKinsey BCG Bain & Company.

Being in IT consulting for over 3 years I wonder if it’s still possible for me to transition to management or strategy consulting companies?

Any help or insight on this is appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I  am working as a software developer in Oracle( btech from old IIT) . Its been 2 years and I now want to switch to management consulting (preferable in MBB) to experience it so want to give MBA.

1. I did some research but I want to gain some information on the salary aspect of it. I heard that the salaries are not that high they would probably be in the same range that I am getting now. BUT, I want to know in the long run do consultants get more hikes compared to tech roles? 

2. I heard the wlb is pretty bad so is there some resource that I can study to know if thats the right suit for me since its a big risk I’ll be taking moving on to a different field. There are some good exit opportunities also I believe after MBB can someone tell more about it.

Would really appreciate some answers on this. Its on my head for a long time. Cheers!

I have 76% in 10th, 81 in 12th, and 70 in UG 

Having said that I am currently working on building strong profile so it shall compensate on my academic score.

And also I'm new joinee in a company planning to get into mba after 2yr. 

Any experienced professionals advice would.  truly be appreciated.

Ps. If not consulting please do mention what is strong profile contains to stand out from the croud in MBA admissions & placements.

Hi everyone, I am currently working as an IB analyst (front end) in a boutique shop. Our core focus is equity and debt funding in the startup space (seed to series b usually). 

Its been an year since I have joined and I am looking to switch. Joining a mid market or a bigger boutique shop makes more sense by the book and I have some connections for the same but I have been really interested in management consultancy and want to give it a shot before MBA. 

The thing is, I graduated from a tier 2 private college and most of the consultancy firms I know of give a huge importance to pedigree and prefer hiring from tier-1 institutes. Does it make sense for me to try getting in through referrals or is it smarter to aim for this post MBA. And to begin with, do I even stand a chance to get into some good consultancy firm?

Heard from people I know at Bain that they are laying off.
This is mostly the first time an MBB is doing layoffs (earlier they would silently fire, or delay onboarding) 

A friend got impacted. Seems like this could be 10-15% of their consultants. Unprecedented.
