China has built their own GPTs that support Mandarin. India has a ton of languages. Training GPTs on those can help us to build applications with Indic languages support. It can help us to understand different cultural nuances which are lost in translations. Why would we stop using ChatGPT ? It’s not a zero sum game. Most industrial apps don’t ned a general purpose LLM, tbh.

Yes, true story. A startup called sarvam.ai is doing that, they recently raised 41M USD for the same. The founders have a background of building indic centric LLMs via a group called ai4bharat. Indic ChatGPT is necessary. Imagine all the chatbots of banks and other sectors, if they could be as smart as ChatGPT while supporting indic languages. Immense value and potential.
