Context: I am a software engineer with 4 years of experience.

Everytime I work with a bunch of engineers (Especially Indian Startups). Most of them are workaholics.

They are just working for some company full-time. They are interested in learning more about technology, making jokes about technology, following technology news, etc. 

That is it. 

No social life. (Especially after Covid). No skills in any other part of life.

Their comfort zone is so small that they have developed a lifestyle of working, sleeping & watching something on laptops and that's it.

They make an excellent salary but don't do anything else. 

Every time I meet a 35-40-year-old software engineer, it is just a physically unfit guy with an arranged marriage who is boring as a brick.

Are most Software Engineers boring outside work?

I am in my late 20s and I feel attacked. Thank you for striking the right chord 
  
 I've come to realize that, like many software engineers, I've found myself navigating the monotony of an 8-hour job, often feeling isolated from my office peers. It can be challenging when people hesitate to open up, but the reasons for this became clear. 
  
 There are two key aspects at play: a minimal social life and prioritizing work. These factors are interconnected. In late 20s, the circle of friends tends to shrink, and individuals are busy setting up their own lives, leading to growing distances. With limited time for each other, it's easy to become engrossed in work life. I didn't anticipate that making friends would become a challenge, and I acknowledge this as a personal objective (read OKR) for myself. Despite being an extrovert, reinitiating the trust and friendship path can be difficult. 
  
 To address this, I've proactively connected with people, stepped out of my comfort zone, and initiated new activities. It's a challenging process, and sometimes it feels like I'm overdoing it, but the effort is rewarding. Engaging in activities beyond my job role, such as joining a gym or participating in public discussions, has been beneficial. I've also reduced my time on social media, realizing that platforms like Instagram reels consume a significant portion of my time. 
  
 I'd like to urge understanding for people in their late thirties. Having once criticized the habits of those in their late twenties when I was in my early twenties, I now comprehend the challenges of their situation. Unexpectedly, I find joy in shopping for groceries and organizing them neatly. It's all about priorities, and embracing change has made a significant positive impact in my life.

3 new communities on Grapevine

I had this idea in mind, that many of us either want to learn something new or create our own product but we either don't have the time or consistency to learn or no time to build huge products alone.

So I'm proposing this, why don't we software Engineers of all experience levels come together and build communities where if someone wants to learn SpringBoot Backend or React Frontend or whatever the stack is, they come along and start working on a product and learn along the way.

To help them, experienced software Engineers come along and if they want they work on it and help the people and guide them with the best practices.

In the case of experienced folks, let's say they decide on several products and we divide the teams based on the expertise and start working on them.

What do we get in return?

Better networking, experience and maybe a few good startups which are built by
us, and they succeed at a product level.


Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to mentor, learn or want to build a product but they don't have people to do that.

Who all are invited?

Senior Engineers, Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Director of Engineering, CTOs and others. Sr folks to help the community.

Let's say we decide on 5 products, make a roadmap on how we want to work and within a year we release these products in the market and maybe maybe we get to work on our own company rather than from others.

if not, then also good karma and networking will be done which will be helpful for this tough time ahead of us.

Today's Junior engineers will be Senior engineers of tomorrow.  Today's Senior engineers will be a great part of management of tomorrow.

Let's build real software and change the way we learn things and do great engineering and learn a lot and earn from the products as well.

About me: 2023 Graduate. I have been hunting for full time opportunities since 1 year. Call it a mix of sheer bad luck, bad decisions, over filtration, less CGPA, low demand high supply etc.

I completed a 6 months offcampus internship starting from January. PPO wasn't offered even after good performance however extension was provided.

I will say I have been choosy to get into Software Engineering roles only unless there is a >15 LPA CTC. One should gather multiple offers to keep themselves from becoming unemployed but in my case moodiness prevailed which shouldn't.

I have knowledge in C++, Java, Python. Familiar with React JS, MongoDB and worked with projects involving MERN Stack. Furthermore, I also have projects in ML, DL, NLP (for reference I have had knowledge of GPT architecture since 2021 by going through the research papers)

Finally here I am with an offer giving 10 CTC. Cannot disclose the name except that it is a Gurgaon based startup with a product + SaaS structure. How did I land it?

NETWORKING (not the CS subject)

One key thing people don't indulge is making use of their networks. Hell even your personal network like friends, cousins etc. The benefit of this your resume actually goes through a human HR's eyes than ATS or keyword filter picker.

A lot of shenanigans are going currently against us and it is our duty only to get the job. Being picky while being incredibly risky helped me avoid a lot of the bullshit that other companies especially on campus ones have pulled.

CGPA cuts, Gender Quota, Deferred joinings, offers revoked, non extension of PPOs by citing bad performance but actually not giving tasks, layoffs due to bad financials, extended internship, revised lower CTC, fake job posts etc have all happened.

All of my nearly missed companies which I really wanted to go to have done such acts and I don't have respect for all of them (except Goldman Sachs, yet)

Therefore, networking > job postings.

Hey Folks!

I was planning on launching a new age social media application.

What are some good strategies I can apply to growth hack that shiz. 

Im planning paying some Twitter/LinkedIn/Instagram influencers and asking some of my buddies who have  a good following to post screenshots of the app. To make  it look organic, they’ll post some topic to rile up the audience and get that engagement. Also we are planning to not mention the app name in the tweet but always have it in the replies so it looks organic and is if our app is already the talk of the town

Does anyone have any suggestions? Does this sound like a good plan. I paid a freelance growth consultant a lot of money for this plan. How does it sound?  Anyone has any thoughts? Folks?
