Property if you have good lumpsum amount and you know the real estate where place already where your money will grow and where it will be easier for you or someone close to you to manage the asset else if you don't have it go with SIP. Also to add if you are younger than 30 then you can focus on SIP to build good wealth and later invest some of it in real estate that's another approach

I want to start investing 2000 monthly in a SIP, what would be your suggestion?

Where I can invest ? And which app is best?

I currently have around 8L lump sum available to invest and was looking into equity funds. however most the SIPs are at an all time high.

I don’t wish to reallocate my portfolio a lot, so I’m looking at it for the long term (~4-5 years minimum), but wished to make sure I’m investing at the right point.

is there anyone who’s stuck in a similar situation, what would you recommend? (do think that 2024 will be more growth driven for the economy than 2023) 

looking to put it in with the following split:
50% - Large Cap 
30%- Mid Cap
20% - Small Cap

should I wait some time or put it directly in?

Personally, I thought I should invest in the index fund. Because, I don't want to take the risk with this amount. 

But I would still like to know 2 things - 

1. Is the index fund fine?

We don’t know your risk profile, but your statement gave me a hint of conservative.  
  
 For a conservative investor in the current market situation, I will do 2 step investing. 
  
 1. Put 1.6/1.8L in arbitrage/liquid fund  
 2. Start monthly index investing with 20k 
  
 If I see 2.5% correction in index, I will move 60k in index from arbitrage/liquid. If index sees more than that, I will transfer rest of the amount to index.  
  
 The above method will preserve my capital & gains both.

Which mutual fund to invest lumpsum amount?

Hi guys
A finance noob here.
Recently, I saw a lot of videos about Step up SIP and I agree with the point that after every raise you should increase your investments, but I tried a few calculators and didn't find that step up system increased my profits insanely in any way.
E.g.
7000 monthly SIP for 10 Yr at 12% Return
Invested amount = 8.4 L
Estimated Return= 7.8 L
Total = 16.26 L

7000 monthly + 10% step for 10 Yr at 12% Return
Invested amount= 13.38 L
Estimated Return = 10.2 L
Total = 23.6 L

Here I am paying approx 5 L more and the benefit is around 7 L more (out of which 5L is from my pocket), so 2L benefit.

Can someone please explain why this step up is so hyped as of now? Or what did I miss?

SIP vs Step Up SIP

It's been close to a year since I am earning a salary and this is what I do:
1. Invest a little less than 30% straight into MFs. I have three ongoing SIPs- small cap, flexicap and a Large + Midcap fund. (Planning to increase the amount further into these and not start a new sip)

2. Max out 80C by putting the entire limit in PPF, this is on top of what is by default deposited into EPF.

3. A little (inconsistently) into direct stocks as and when I find or get to know about a decent trade opportunity.

4. An LIC ULIP plan that my father made me subscribe to 🙂 (hopefully will end in a couple more years)

Tips from experienced folks will be much appreciated.😄

When we started living in Bangalore in 2015, we were living in Bellandur. 3 years later when we wanted to change our rented house, we had to move to Harlur road. At that time, Harlur road felt like really far but we had to move because the rates and availability were making Harlur road infeasible. 
Post pandemic when I moved back to Bangalore, it was really painful to find a decent rented place. I had to move houses 2-3 times in a year. Paid 75K in brokerage and the same amount in painting charges. Plus loss of time and random policies from people. 
Finally I bought a home on Sarjapur Road and I couldn’t be happier. 
My dad used to ask me to buy a house since forever and I could easily afford one since 2019 but I wanted to put money in SIP. 
If I would have bought a house on Harlur road that time, I wouldn’t have been pushed to Sarjapur Road. If I would have not bought a house even now, I would have been pushed even further in 2-3 years. 
Now I can move out to India and even come back in the craziest of bull markets knowing that I can get a place in 30 days notice. 

Now you tell me which financial model can incorporate all of these variables. My checklist for house buying would be: 
1. If you know that you will be working for a foreseeable future and not going for a PHD, masters or starting your own thing. 
2. You have a mid size corpus. A bit of backing from your family doesn’t hurt. 
3. If you can comfortably pay the EMI for a 15-20 year loan period. 
4. You’re older than 26-27 and you have stayed in Bangalore for 2-3 years.
