Hi All,

I'm 29 M, recently switched to a new job. I am currently earning ₹1.2 lakh per month. I plan to get married within the next year, and I estimate the marriage expenses to be around ₹10-12 lakh. I would like advice on how to save at least ₹8 lakh over the next year to help cover these expenses.

I'm planning to get married in over a year from now. I don't want to touch my portfolio for this and hence starting a wedding fund where I'd pause my investment for a year and route the money into this fund.
Suggest an instrument class where I should park this money. It'd be roughly 70k/ month.

Hi folks,

We, as a family of two, roughly save 50-60% of our salaries every month. Amongst the savings, 95% goes to equity mutual funds (index). We don’t have any other hard asset and stay on rent in a tier 1 Indian city hardly without any EMI and planning to expand the family soon.

I was wondering, 

1. how are we doing in terms of personal finance, and,
2. what are the typical savings rate and equity (or other asset) investment allocation rate for others?

29,M. I am planning to get married this year. My parents have not accumulated much money, plus i don't want to burden them with the expenses of my marriage, hence I will be sponsoring the marriage on my own. Same is the case for my partner, and we will split all expenses equally.

Now, here comes the twist, our parents wish to retain the "izzat" that they have in the society and want to do a big wedding. The budget that I have been told is minimum 20L. Tbh, I don't want to spend this much. I was looking for something ~ 5L.

People on grapevine, especially the members who married recently, what do you think is a decent budget for marriage. Additionally, could you help out in some money saving hacks.

Guys suggesting court marriage, please read the OPs question again. He isn't confused between court marriage or a grand wedding. He wants to understand what the budget should be.  
  
 Groom side expenses 
 Clothing: 70k 
 Jewellery gifted to girl: 2~3L 
 Return gifts (Usually sweets): 1L 
 Stay for guests (30rooms, 2 days): 1.5L 
  
 Bride side expenses  
 Clothing: 1.5L 
 Gifts to guy: 2L 
 Jewellery: 3L 
 Makeup: 30k 
 Return gifts: 1L 
 Stay( Same as groom): 1.5L 
  
 Common expenses 
 Photography (2 days): 3L 
 Venue + Food (2 days): 6~8L (Per plate ranges between 1k to 2.5k in tier cities) 
 Parents shopping: 4L (2L per side) 
  
 Total expense= ~30L for both sides. Now you can decide what to cut and what to spend on.

It's been close to a year since I am earning a salary and this is what I do:
1. Invest a little less than 30% straight into MFs. I have three ongoing SIPs- small cap, flexicap and a Large + Midcap fund. (Planning to increase the amount further into these and not start a new sip)

2. Max out 80C by putting the entire limit in PPF, this is on top of what is by default deposited into EPF.

3. A little (inconsistently) into direct stocks as and when I find or get to know about a decent trade opportunity.

4. An LIC ULIP plan that my father made me subscribe to 🙂 (hopefully will end in a couple more years)

Tips from experienced folks will be much appreciated.😄

Age: 23

Monthly Mutual Fund SIP:
- Total: ₹91,000
  - Axis Small Cap: ₹5,000
  - Axis Mid Cap: ₹10,000
  - Parag Parikh Flexi Cap: ₹28,000
  - ICICI Prudential Nifty 50 Index: ₹32,000
  - Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 FoF: ₹16,000

The rest of my salary goes towards expenses, FDs, NPS, P2P investments, etc. I am also accumulating wealth in short-term investment products for a down payment as I plan to invest in a house next year (for rental income).
Not willing to withdraw from mutual funds at least for the next 6-7 years, maybe even 10 years.

Should I shift my mid-cap/small-cap SIPs rom Axis to Quant due to the hype around Quant AMC these days?

Every month my salary gets credited I barely spend 20% of it the rest of it is just sitting around in my bank account it's already above 5L. I keep thinking of investing it in stocks/mf but it's a lot of work 😔
