Meta intends to offer a commercial license for their next open-source LLM, enabling companies to freely utilize and profit from their AI model.

Rn their LLM is currently limited to research purposes only. Opening it up for commercial use would drive its adoption even further.

Engineers are experimenting with LLaMA as a side project. Unfortunately, they are unable to integrate these models into their commercial software. Meta's commercial license would be a crucial breakthrough for rapid adoption.

- Meta has unveiled Llama 3.1 405B, its largest open source AI model to date, boasting 405 billion parameters, making it competitive with leading proprietary models like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
- Trained using 16,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs and a dataset of 15 trillion tokens, Llama 3.1 405B is designed to handle a variety of text-based tasks, from coding to summarizing documents in multiple languages.
- Meta is also exploring multimodality, developing Llama models that can recognize images and videos, and understand speech, although these are not yet ready for public release.
- The company has updated Llama’s license to allow developers to use outputs from the Llama 3.1 model family to develop third-party AI generative models, aiming to foster an ecosystem around its AI tools.
- Despite its advancements, Llama 3.1 405B requires significant hardware to run and Meta continues to face scrutiny over its use of training data, including copyrighted materials.

Meta Releases Its Largest Open Source AI Model Yet

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman testified against Congress(USA wala) and the end result seems to be there will be global regulations on AI. There might be a transparency law that dictates what Data is used for training.

Now I have a few questions:

1. Is it a pro game move by OpenAI to slow down AI Training of smaller companies that are just starting out?
2. Since big tech has back door access to law makers lobby(as we saw in case if right to repair), will they bend the regulations per there liking?
3. Given countries like US and China have supremacy over AI Research, will it curtain AI Development in countries like India?
4. Will Google Bard again cry in trashcan?

People have no idea what they are going to witness in a year or two .... In 5 years, there will be no need of hiring most developers for insane salaries...

People are underestimating AI pace.  Just yesterday, Meta released open sourced code llama which is better than chatgpt and github copilot

Current: L4 56 Lakhs
YoE: 1 year 7 months

Here's what I have considered:

- Living in London is going to be costly, on an avg I'll be saving 1.2x of India.
- Meta London created a bad reputation for itself when last year it laid off people from India just 2 days after joining
- it's not worth it going from L4 to E4, I probably should switch only when getting a higher level or a big big pay bump (this is probably not a big pay bump considering the cost of living)
- I am not very good at making friends, and I have quite some friends here now... I don't just want to leave everything and be alone in a new city so far away from home.

- the only pro point I see is that..  it is London.

Do you think I should reconsider my decision?

I have decided to reject Meta London offer

Dude, take risk. I know staying in Google looks like safety net but You might not be able to do adventures stuff later in life. Moving to a new country, new food, new culture. You WILL meet new people. Those things can’t be bought.

Ad accounts arbitrarily stopped can disrupt cashflows in a major way. I'm seeing a lot of startups struggle with frequent algo/rule changes and blocked accounts.
