My manager is overly focused on minor details and nitpicking my work.

For the past two years, I have been working as a software engineer at a service-based company. In this type of organization, employees are often assigned to different projects over time. Currently, my manager, who also serves as the team lead, has been engaging in excessive micromanagement. They seem to be nitpicking and closely scrutinizing nearly every aspect of my work, which I find to be a very frustrating and stifling experience. This level of micromanagement has made me feel uncomfortable and hindered my ability to work effectively. I am now considering changing jobs, as I believe this working environment is not conducive to my professional growth and development. Given the challenges I'm facing with my manager's approach, I am wondering if it would be a good decision to seek employment elsewhere. I am contemplating this move in order to find a work environment that is better aligned with my needs and allows me to thrive as a software engineer.

Any managers here who could help verify the urge to micro manage everything that happens under them? I don't like being micro-managed for every task even after consistently performing well in my reviews and work in general. I feel micro management is hampering my personal growth

I have been employed at a service-based company for the past 2.6 years. Recently, I have been assigned to a new project with a different team. However, my manager has been quite demanding and insistent on my physical presence in the office. Additionally, they expect me to participate in video calls for every meeting and ask detailed questions about my work, often focusing on minor details. Unfortunately, the tasks I am currently working on no longer bring me excitement. Moreover, my manager's authoritative behavior is not something I appreciate. I am starting to wonder if I am experiencing burnout, as I have never encountered these issues before. Is this a normal situation, or should I consider seeking a new opportunity? Other than these work-related challenges, everything else seems to be going well.

I'm feeling really stuck and frustrated at work lately. Despite putting in my best efforts and consistently performing well, it seems like my manager is feeling threatened by my progress. He’s been rejecting my ideas and work without even reviewing them, and calling me out in meetings for not completing non-priority tasks. The environment has become really toxic and it's taking a toll on me. Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you handle it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’m currently working in a support project and whatever I heard from my seniors and fellow guys at work is that nobody stays with this client and company for more than a year or two. I joined here as a fresher with some really good dev skills but the work and tech here is not allowing me to put them to use. I’m feeling like quitting from here, but again need to brush up my skills as I did not put them to use over a period of 14 months. Also there is a lot of micromanagement going on and I’m not comfortable with that. No one takes ownership of work and tries to push it to you and make you work on it.

I'm relatively early in my career, and has been working as a Program Manager (it doesn't mean that I have anyone reporting to me). I love what I do. The pay is also decent. I also like software engineering (app development mainly). I used to code regularly and has got some apps on the Play Store as well (hobby projects, not big). I'm confused whether I should continue as a Program Manager (going down the managerial route) or switch to a Software Engineering role. I feel like I should get some software engineering experience before being in a role working closely with Software Engineers. But, another thought is why move away from something that I love doing. I'm a bit scared on taking a decision (grass would always be greener on the other side). I don't know anyone like me in the same route. Note: I work at a fortune 50 organisation, awesome team/manager, and all of them are completely supportive of whatever decision I make. My manager is happy to help me grow in any direction (both at the same time as well), but spending energy on one would yield better results.
