[VENT] Why I feel the need of Someone?

So, yesterday was supposed to be all about sibling bonds, but it turned into a reminder of how complicated family can be. You know how some holidays just don't live up to expectations? Yeah, this was one of those.

I've got this tradition of reaching out to my guy cousins for Rakshabandhan since I don't have brothers. Usually, it's a nice little exchange - nothing fancy, just a quick "Hey, thinking of you" kind of thing. But this year? Radio silence from one of them. Let's call him Dev.

At first, I brushed it off. People get busy, right? But then I saw him commenting on stuff in our family group chat. Ouch. Talk about being left on read.

The weird part is, Dev and I generally get along fine. He even made this sweet post about his sister today. It just hit different, you know? Like, oh right, I'm not actually part of that sibling circle.

Mom dropped some truth bombs later, mentioning how this isn't exactly new. Apparently, back in the day when we'd send actual rakhis, they'd never even say thanks. I'd totally forgotten about all the heartfelt letters I used to write too. Guess they're still collecting dust somewhere.

I'm trying not to let it get to me, but it's hard not to feel a little... I don't know, forgotten? Unimportant? It's just a text, but sometimes it's the little things that speak volumes.

Cousin ghosted me on Rakshabandhan

When I go to the office, all of my colleagues talk to me very kindly. It's as if they're reassuring me that if anything were to happen, I have nothing to worry about because these guys will manage everything, including my family. However, when there's a need for teamwork, these guys behave as if they belong to different departments and do back bitching all day.

Outside of work, clients try to get close, almost like cousins (I know they want referrals), but during review meetings in front of their bosses, these guys act like FBI agents or like they are doing some type of favor on us.

In college, when our group of friends used to go on trips, we would enjoy every time like kids. But now, everyone is more interested in knowing how much we earn and Judging based on the brands of our clothes and watches.

People often ask me why I don't go home on long weekends. Well, I live in a joint family, and when I go there, everyone bombards me with questions about when I'm going to get married. Man what the hell, I don't want to get married, plain and simple. My uncle, every time he sees me, asks about my annual salary increment. What's the deal? Didn't we have this conversation just three months ago? Who gets a raise every quarter?

Finally, I decided that I'll take some time for my personal life, and if I find a soulmate, I'll consider marriage. But here's the thing (sorry if it's not appropriate): it seems like everyone these days is only interested in one thing, yes Se*. What's wrong with our generation? Doesn't anyone want emotional support anymore? Isn't anyone interested in enjoying the sunset with someone they love or gazing at the sky while lying on the grass?

People often ask me why I don't go outside or try to be more social. Well, I've tried everything, and I'm really happy at my home in my favorite pajamas.

I really don't like the practice of sharing current CTC. Not only it ties your future income to your current income but it also traps you into a vicious cycle of justifying your hikes.

I've been looking for a job for the past 4 months. Recruiters usually drop my application because I don't share the current CTC. Recruiters that do entertain my application, tend to ghost me after I clear the interview.

Confused Between Principle & Practice

I'm at that age where is tremendous pressure to get married. Can't even put in words the kind of torture I go through every day. I'm a woman. I have met people mostly through AM set up. I didn't click with anyone. I don't have faith that I'll be anyone compatible through AM route. Tried dating app, quickly realised it's not for me, the compatibility is even worse there. I go to events and such, didn't really meet anyone. Idk if it's just the Kannada culture, everyone is just so shy! I enjoy being by myself but would prefer being with a partner. I realise the importance of having a companion. At the same time, I also don't want to just get married to someone for the sake of it. 

So Bengalurians, especially Kannadigas, where did you meet your partner/SO/spouse? 

What is something I should be doing that I'm not doing?

Hey Folks, 
I am a 22Y M, and want to improve my dating life. I am an extrovert person and can talk to opposite genders very well. 

The only issue I face is to build a romantic connection. I suck at that. Don't know why, but flirting makes me feel cringe. 

Something about me:
1. I got my first girlfriend in the 8th standard. Dated for a year. 

2. In class 9th, I experienced love for the first time and ngl I still feel the same for that girl. We dated for two years. 

3. In the 11th and 12th standard, I had 1 girlfriend each standard but couldn't continue for xyz reason. 

4. I then last dated in my third year (last of 2021), but long distance was not my thing. 

5. Since, then I feel cringe whenever I try to flirt and don't want any love shove, because I never felt the same, I felt for that girl in class 9th.

6. Since, my last breakup I am only able to fulfil my physical needs but now I want to change that and find someone with whom I can build a strong connection

My bestfriend is going to the USA. She has gotten an admit to a very prestigious university for MS in CS. I have known her all my life and have had a crush for almost 15 years now. 

I never had the guts to say it to her because the timing was never convenient. We used to hangout together a lot. She was also in a relationship on and off with this guy. Maybe she did not see me as boyfriend material or I don't know. But I always wanted to be with her. 

I never looked at any other girl because I knew I liked her. So I waited and waited. Hoping that she would see me the way I saw her. She would love me the way I wanted to love her. But mard apni pasandeeda aurat ke lie kuch bhi kar sakta hai. So I decided not to confess my feelings to her. 

I did not want to jeopardise my friendship with her. But now that she is leaving for USA. I am scared we will not talk as much. Should I confess my feelings or let her go?

I’ll go first, getting that old PSP, the one which had WiFi in built. Or maybe PlayStation 2 which was like 5k-6k back then.

Now, I could get a PS5 or buy games to play on my PC, but the feeling is lost. Just like my childhood.

I guess I lived a part of my childhood today. Went on a walk and had a Cornetto IceCream, which back then I didn’t have the money for and had to buy an Orange/Cola IceCream. Then, I walked around my society.

Saw a few kids playing football and instantly teleported back to when I was a kid.

Now that child is gone and the dream has too. 
But still, it feels good remembering that 5 year old me would be proud of adult me, and that’s what truly matters. 🥰

Are you guys social? I usually don't talk much with people. With girls it is worse. Like what the hell am I supposed to talk about.

I saw a friend tweet about how Bangalore is full of connected but lonely people jumping in to join every Meetup/WhatsApp group that becomes available. This is my problem with the meetup / conference culture. Meetup culture is all about optionality. You think you'll meet someone new who's cool. Someone who can help you build your network. 

You would rather join a meetup with 100 other strangers than build stronger connections with your friends. In life there are only a few people who really matter. 

People who you can call at 11 PM to rant about your workday. People who you know will be genuinely happy about your promotion. People you share screenshots from work with. It is not probably the 100 strangers in that Whatsapp group that you think of when you are having a health issue and want to share your fears. It also means lowering your ego, which I'm happy to do with my old friends. I'm always happy to ping them when I get the chance, and I'm the one asking them to call me. 

I'm the one who asks them to hang out with me. I used to think, "Why bother?" but then I realised that it doesn't matter who reaches out first. It is not about keeping a count. 

I realised it's for me! If I have a chat with a friend of mine who I have known for over 10 years, my mood improves immediately. Everyone is very busy. Everyone is stressed with their jobs and their personal lives. Some of them are married now. Some have children. But that's where you've got to work to keep connecting with the people who matter to you. Friendship is also about being vulnerable. True friendship is built on vulnerability. 

Being able to share your dreams, your failures and your demons with each other. While the meetup culture is all about bumping into people for 5 minutes to judge their worth and whether they are worth your time, my preference is for long 1-1s. Either on the phone or face to face. I am happy to meet just one person over the weekend and have hours of conversation about work, life or wha

I understand that most of the tech community is men, and probably in this community as well.
But some of y'all just make me lose hope, in seeing how pathetic your thought processes are.

Women don't need to work cause India's GDP doesn't demand so? Excuse me? 
Have you heard of financial independence. Some of us want that.

The next thing is diversity hiring. 
Diversity hiring is needed because of regressive thought processes like these that discourage and inhibit the progress of women in the workplace. 
Women in general, have to go through a lot more in comparison to men in life. 

Consider an example: You are a guy going to university, you mom does everything for you, you have enough time to study and do everything you want, go out with friends.

Now another girl in your class might be expected to do housework, along with studies.
If she doesn't score well she is threatened to be married off. As a result she only has so much time to study and not do extra curricular activities, while the guy can do all of that just because of the privilege of being male.

This is why the bar of entry is lowered, so that women who are struggling in life, fighting their way through these odds can progess in life.

Even if women who don't have these situations benefit, even if it benefits one person, makes their life better. How does it even bother you?

Instead you want to make thier lives hell by shitting on them as diversity hire. 

Please learn empathy. Learn to respect and understand the struggles of others, regardless of their gender.
Also acknowledge that as a male you have more privileges than women, because we are in a patriarchal society, which is why women need a helping hand sometimes.
