Negotiating salary

My background: Hey! I am in my final year, I did a summer internship at a software firm as a SDE role for 1 lakh stipend. And I got a full time offer for 26 LPA after graduation which will be in May’24

I applied for internship in a startup for working until my graduation, it was for the same role i worked during my internship. During a phone call interview right now, he asked me how much you’ll be expecting when you join full time, so I mistakenly revealed my offer and how much i m expecting. He made me compare the 12 lpa which this startup can give to maximum and 36 lpa which is my ctc offer in another company. I told him that I am ready to do a internship now at a lower money(50k), but after a year, depending on the situations of the startup, we can negotiate on the salary if can get a competitive one. What should I do now?

Please give me suggestions on how should I had negotiated, and did i do anything wrong by revealing my another offer from another company.?

What should be my next steps?

My advice would be to join the internship program at startup and after that join your full time PPO company. In this current scenario do not bet on early stage startup, instead go for the full time role in a more stable company.

Yeahh i’ll do that, but how do we negotiate the salaries in general? Is it okay to reveal the offer now itself?

Yeah it's okay to reveal your existing offers, always try to get a higher base salary than your current base salary, also try to negotiate for the relocation bonus if you are relocating and the performance bonus. Also ask for RSU and equity in case of startup.

Once you joined a job cannot expect future negotiated salary at due time. It never happens. Better to look for better opportunity. During negotiation, put industry standard figure for that job role. Don't outspoken.

Downball?

I used to work in a early stage startup. Got selected from campus placement and they provided hefty fix pay(16 lpa) + 16 lpa ( spread across 4 years including esop and bonus) (totally fraud to come on day 0 in IIT). They now fired me. I ...
