I have a 4 years gap now and going out for jobs soon. But in these 4 years, I did lots of freelancing, hacking and have a good profile.

About me:- B.E. in extc 2018 batch Mumbai University. In 2019 I joined TCS as fresher, stayed there 7 months. Left for IIT Mtech aspiration. Prepared fulltime gate exam 2020, 2022, 2023. Did not worked. 2021 was medical issues and job crunch period for me. In 2024, I have joined an offline IT training institute full stack java. 

My worry is: after gaining 2+ years experience in small company for the time being, will this 5 year gap still create problems at the time of lateral job switches into FANG?

Kindly advice me on 5 year career gap.

Hello everyone,I am 2021 CS graduate.I was preparing for GATE  exam for my mtech.But I couldn't perform well enough to get good college.I will probably get around 4000 rank this year.(I know this not good rank for general category and I won't get my desired college/course)I have very good conceptual understanding of CSE subjects like DS, algorithms, databases,and operating systems.But I haven't done any programming and any practical implementation of these.(I only have good btech project on my resume)I have decided to take upcoming TCS NQT to get my first job in IT field.

So my main questions are :-
1)what should be my further direction from here ?

2)Should I take job or give GATE another attempt (along with job)?

3)Also please suggest how can I land my first job  after gap of 1.5 years.?

I am 26M with close to 3 years of work experience and a MBA from a tier 1 college. I make decent salary, however I am not really enjoying my job. I am also depressed from working very hard the past 5 years with graduation, Covid and job Etc. I just want to take a few months off and focus on my mental/physical health. I also want to prepare for Product roles and try out some business/freelancing ideas I have.

My concern is how Career gaps are treated like a stigma in the industry. Like what was the use of working so hard and getting qualifications, if I cannot take a few months in between jobs to focus on myself. Can someone help me get some perspective?

I was working as Data Analyst but some personal I have to leave my job. Its been 3 years now. I want to come back.I have brush up my skills. But most of companies reject when they see the career gap.
What I can do which make me good candidate and get a job.

Career Gap

For some context: I have about 4.5 YoE & 3 years directly in product along with Master’s level qualification. Primarily have worked with early stage start ups and have experienced similar challenges in each so avoiding this segment and red flag companies (taking Glassdoor, ambition box reviews as the basis here)
But a few people/seniors are suggesting to consider any opportunity with any kind of company as the market is bad. 

So wanted some perspective on the risk of career gap on resume vs being stuck in a similar company and going through the same job search process maybe 6 months or a year down the line? What would be a better trade off? 

P.S: Currently I am able to focus on overall up skilling and whatever is needed to clear job interviews and have decent financial security & runway. 

Any advice/perspectives are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have 5+ years of total experience - 3+ years of BA (business analyst) + Sr BA experience and a year of Product Manager 2 experience. Then I started my own venture.

I'm thinking about switching back to the product manager role as my firm is not working as per the expectations and product development & growth marketing is something I genuinely enjoy working on.

I need some advice from you all - how can I justify my 'employment gap'? 
What should I tell (or rather hide) about start-up failure?
What should be my approach while applying for PM openings? Where should I start?
I have graduated from an IIT, how can I leverage that?

Hello good folks of grapevine, I am very confused with my situation right now. I am currently working at a consumer tech unicorn in a strategy role but really burnt out with the working environment. I have no clarity on my roles and responsibilities which keeps changing every week. I am not learning much either. I am planning to quit without any offer in hand (notice period is 2 months, I have enough to survive 5-6 months). I am an IIT-IIM graduate (old ones). Hi everyone, I was working for a startup for about 1.5 years and I was doing quite well. then my mind thought of exploring other industries so I quit my job and started looking for jobs in other industries and landed on one after 3 months of quitting. And that company was not open to learning or engaging anything apart from my JD and I was not happy as I was working only for an hour of the day (basically I was doing nothing). It was frustrating as I was paying 200 for auto everyday for doing nothing so I left that job and started looking for jobs and this next company was supposed to be a game changer in my career but it was toxic I told my manager how I feel about it and he convinced me that I'll be working only with him. But that one day everything crossed the limit. And I left that job in 4 months. 

Now, why can't I say this directly in my interviews?? Why do I have to lie about why I switched jobs. I can't  say directly "no learning opportunities or no growth or toxic environment in previous companies". 

This is so frustrating, I've applied for more than 200 companies in the last 2 months and I've nothing. 🤕

Not talking essential leaves maternity break or something like that, but more like for well being/upskilling/travel etc, whatever it maybe. Could you share your experience ?

It's been a year and a month since I've been unemployed.
I had a chronic illness which lasted for 2.5 years ( yes I was working when I was sick - worst decision of my life ) .

I recovered from it in September 2023, since then I've been looking for new jobs in frontend domain.
In my previous role , I was working as a support engineer for a service based company but wanted to work in frontend. During my illness period I also joined a cohort and also did a certification in React development.

Now, when I apply for jobs, I'm getting no calls, when I do get calls from recruiters, they ask about my career gap I tell them everything that happened. After the call they just ghost me.

How am I supposed to justify my career gap so that I can proceed further with the interview?
Do I lie about it and say that I did freelancing, I've heard most people do these kinds of things when they have to justify any kind of career gap.
