Responsibilities of High-end Designations

Hey everyone, excited to be doing this AMA! A brief about me, I work currently as a Director of Product at an Indian unicorn startup About my career: - Did my undergrad from IIT and then masters from an Ivy league school - Have been in product for almost 10 years now - across 2 Indian unicorn startups and a publicly listed company Would love to take questions on what it means to be a PM, growing within the role, building your career, and other things :) Will be back here at 4 pm and start replying Shoot away!

What exactly is this. Every pm role I see seems more like a success role to me (in the b2b industry) for non tech early careers. No actual identification of opportunities to build. Ppl in this field do help me out!

I will join a IT service company soon as a solution manager in AI/cloud domain. Would like to know how is this role? What could be the future options for me and what other roles/companies can I switch to if i think?

In early startups specially in b2b, product designers are not designers they're rather design support. Always restricted to reach till minimum viable ux. Though whatever gets shipped at the end is better from past but power of shaping product is largely placed at PM's table and engeneering table (feasibility). Now you can avoid complaing and show high agency, partner with PM in defining Product but the default power house is still PM, not the designer. Also you don't have time for this because designs need to shipped to add to next sprint. At the end you just take a deep breath and sigh because you made something better, bit better if not far from what existed before. I guess high impact/ product definition work gets done by designer in big orgs only not only early age startups.

So there are bunch of hirings in every org of which you have no effin idea what they do and why do they exist! Let’s start - UI/UX researcher

Hi everyone, I am currently working as SDE. I do my work very well and i receive accolades from manager and my team members as well. But whenever i discuss my growth ideas with manager, i always receive same feedback i.e. i need to know about the other peoples are working on which task and i need to provide feedback in design discussion call. I am bit confused. I know on very high level about the task but not very much context. And i always provides my pov in design discussion if i am aware of that particular thing. My of our team member's work doesn't overlap with each other. In that case for me it is very hard to share my pov as i don't have more context. Any suggestions how can i overcome two above problems. Thanks all

It takes time to understand and master any domain. You have to do something substantial. Where has the humility gone? Does calling yourself Leader increases chances of getting jobs? It’s mind boggling And shallow.

I'm currently interviewing for 2 companies, 1st one is Deloitte and another one is a seed stage startup that has a potential to make it big ( I'm assuming). The founder is super nice and I'll be working with him and a product engineer. What are the pros and cons of working in both the companies? Ps- I'm having an experience of working as a ux designer in a design agency for 2 years

Is it just me or design culture in India is just becoming worse? Saw a lead designer come in for work. Sit down for 5 minutes and make crass jokes and then leave. What even man. I am super disappointed. All the best people I have worked with have either left or are about to leave. All the women in office become uncomfortable with these jokes and it is visible on their faces. They then take credit for our work and speak really well to the senior management about "HE" has done. I transitioned to design to learn and grow in my career but this is the least ambitious field I have seen in my career. What do you think?
