Well I've been doing SIP in selected non-index funds for past 4-5 years and surprised to that I'm comfortably beating nifty 50 benchmark.

One of my relatives wanted to invest in SiPs.

Asked my help coz am into direct stocks buying and USA market also. ( Made 10x in last 8y)

So, i checked his phone and got only Paytm and phonepe through which I could have subscribed sips.

But all of sudden I saw expenses like exit load and fund management 2% and 1% respectively.

So, i referred grow and alas! The same charge reduced to 0.XY % ( x and y = 0,1...9) 

Then I researched little bit and got him these fund's.

5000 per month and 40% in large cap. ( Long term 15-20y plan)

He can have moderate risk.( Got 3 kids, planning for their 20s)

Please suggest if all these funds are fine or need to change something

I want to start investing in mutual funds. I want to design my portfolio for the long term goals(15 years min). I was confused about what the mix of funds should be.  I can take risks now but I don't want my portfolio to be volatile as fuck. Like 15-16% returns with some diversification(5% or you suggest) in debt maybe. 

Can someone suggest what should be an ideal mix?

Just some personal finance gyaan, I follow these regularly 

1) Have 3-6 months of cautionary savings
2) Have up to 2x your monthly account in your bank 
3) Have 3 accounts (Salary, Investment & Spend)
4) Have a Bifurcation of Equity, Debt , Real-estate & Gold 
by age and follow that 
5) Have 2-3 credit cards (Set Breach limits) 
6) Think long term 
7) Reduce costs on all fronts - Saving account, demat, mutual funds , tax etc
8) Medical & Life insurance is a must 
9) Don't inflate your lifestyle after you income gets upgraded .Wait observe and decide if it's worth it
10) Always invest in things that would give you less headache

Hi folks, I have recently started investing after repeatedly being told to not hoard my money in savings, wanted to know how/how much other people invest. 
Current portfolio:
Equity: 2.5 L ( banking, fmcg, ETFs)
Mutual Funds: 1.1 L ( Navi Index fund - 10 k per month sip, SBI Liquid Fund - 10k per month)

I feel that I should invest more since i dont have any financial dependents on me right now, but dont know how much and dont want to  put my hard earned money somewhere I won’t see it ever.

Hi folks

I'm a 21 year old, investing 1000 each into 35 mutual funds
Taking my SIP to 35k per month 

Just to set the context, apart from this, I'm passively investing into ipo's and stocks as well for the long term.

I've read at a lot of places that investing in more than 10 mutual funds is a foolish choice, because most of your stocks are going to be overlapping. But I don't understand why it's called foolish?

There can't be a 100% overlap of portfolio between any 2 mutual fund houses, there is always going to be a significant difference, which adds to the risk diversification any which ways, because my money is spread across multiple set of stocks and across different fund manager brains as well, for e.g. one might sell some of my stock at a high or a low, while other might not.

My diversification is -
45% small cap
25% mid cap
10% large cap
Rest growth or sectoral

I'm open for any feedback/criticism or suggestions even.
