Should I tell me boss I'm burnt out?

So, my boss is an absolutely lovely person, and is the best boss I've had so far. Not to brag, but I'm also the best performer in my team, by a mile. So, while I do get my pats on the back, I'm also rewarded with more and more work. I love, atleast so far, what I do, so I didn't mind taking up more work, because I learnt a lot in the process too, and it helped my hone my craft better.

Cut to now, I'm losing interest in work. Don't feel like taking up any new work, no matter how exciting the brief, or how great its potential.

I feel like I'm burnt out. And majorly demotivated.

What makes it worse is seeing this other member in my team chill the absolute fk out. He's hardly even given any important projects because of what a waste resource he is.

I've also just been promoted. So, I'm not sure if I should share what's on my mind with my boss.

My mind says I shouldn't, but my heart says it should be fine.

What should I do about:

  1. Telling or not telling my boss what I'm going through (because I'm scared if it'll come back to bite my later)
  2. Me feeling extremely burnt out and demotivated.

Drop in a joke or two, if you want, but please drop in a serious and genuine reply too.

No, please dont in my opinion. Are you not taking leave’s? Please take leaves.

It might be contradictory on what i said but when it comes to bosses, it better not to talk about burning out and demotivated etc.

If you still want to do, sound as positive as you can be.

You can say you want to spend time with family and take a break. See if you feel better once back from vacay.

Take a holiday for 2 weeks.

This is correct. Don't tell your boss about burnout etc. Even people who look helpful on surface can use your details to their advantage when push comes to shove.

Look for promotion within your company if you feel you are better than your colleague. Look for a job elsewhere or in another vertical of same company if you are bored of work. If you cannot change anything, start a side project or side hussle along with your work, you might get your interest back (even in your job), after you start putting sometime in side hussle. ( I have seen my friend get much better )

Please tell your boss that you are burning out which is very common. Soon, your mental health will start to deteriorate and you will need help. If your boss is genuinely a nice guy, he will help you out. Honestly reduce your working hours slightly and take more breaks. Go back to enjoying small things you do. I told my boss that I'm burning out and I have my working hours reduced which the choice of work that I want to do. A lot of people will co-relate that the best performers are the ones that burn out and there's nothing wrong with it

You should. A boss' job, apart from getting the work done, is to take into account the wellbeing of their employees. Bosses here in India are unfortunately not as open as they are out in the West, but since you mentioned your boss is a lovely person, you should definitely let them know what's playing on your mind.

People I know (in Netapp and Cisco) similarly have nice bosses, and were in the same position you are in. One of them was ready to quit immediately. Once they informed their bosses of the fact that they are demotivated, both the bosses worked incredibly hard to ensure that their work was spaced out in a way that's comfortable for the employees without it affecting the deadlines in a crucial way. This led to both my friends retaining the love for the company, the work, and both of them are in a better shape now, mentally speaking.

I will be brutally honest here:

Bhaiii simple si cheez haii, insaan apne paapo ka khudi jimwedaar hota hai

Aap ek taraf se bhi sochre ho ki kaam kaam kaam dedo sab krluga sole warrior banuga

And phir ek taraf ye bhi sochre ho ki bhai work life balance hojati toh life sort hojati

Aise nhi chalega, Aise nhi chalti duniya

Agr balance banana hai toh take initiative, Dont fucking blame manager or fucked up team members.

This was the brutal truth.

Here is the solution:

Chup chaap shaanti se jao 1 week vacation lekr humpi ya koi hill station close to nature

Burn out feel krna is normal

Aakhon ko aaram de and nature ko enjoy kr, without thinking about work

And take this type of 1 week break every quarter.
