 Left 2nd b2b (8 months) - job was perfect, projects were exactly what I was looking for. But there was a cultural imbalance b/w me and 1 of our founder. Toxicity in workplace drifted me away.

- Did Btech and Mtech from IIT Delhi
- Worked with a management consultancy firm for 2 years 
- Worked with a B2B mid stage startup as strategy and ops manager for 1 year 
- Worked with a year stage B2B startup as founding team member lead product and supply for 8 months  

Have been on a career break since Nov'23. Early days were very romantic I was enjoying my free time. But it has been very difficult lately without any direction for future. 

What should be my goal? And a short term plan for next 6 months?

I have worked hard to have a stellar profile (tier 2 Engineering graduate and tier 1 MBA graduate). I have 2 years of pre-MBA experience and will be completing 1 year post-MBA in a few months, at which point i plan on putting in my papers. Being in this rat race has taken it's toll. I am depressed and dread logging into work everyday. It's come to a point where every small task feels like a burden. I have decent amount of savings and I can support myself during the time off. My parents and friends don't seem very excited by this decision of mine, but they are not in my shoes and do not understand what I am feeling. Would love to hear other people's stories/opinions on this.

I worked as a SWE for 2.5 years at an Indian MNC, I honestly didn't like the project as my daily work used to on a legacy technology, My manager never approved me (or anyone for that matter) to move to a different project with good tech stack and challenging workspace. So, resignation was my only choice without any backup offer, which I chose and later I unfortunately had to undergo a surgery, My doctor had advised me to take 3 months break from everything and stay home. It's been 6 monts since I left my job, currently I am revising the concepts of Java (Core & Advanced), SQL, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap along with Spring Boot. My problem is do recruiters consider my profile, even if I get an opportunity, do recruiters consider my salary negotiation, and does my career break affect the hiring process? Please guide me. Not talking essential leaves maternity break or something like that, but more like for well being/upskilling/travel etc, whatever it maybe. Could you share your experience ?

I am considering taking one myself. I know this is normalised on Europe, but I feel in India, many people  (esp. some recruiters) find this weird and most people are even scared about taking a break.

Hi all! I have 16 years of work ex in Corporate sales and currently working in a leading indian Fintech from last 9 years. Hey , I'm Btech CSE graduate from PTU Jalandhar ( completed in sept 2022) after that worked for 5-6 months as data analyst ( non - tech field ) and from there onwards did nothing for a year due to hiring freeze , joinings revoked in TCS Infosys. as I was less skilled in coding n all that time so not eligible for big companies and layoffs happening since then.

Brief context: I resigned from my current role(Project Manager) due to personal reasons. I have been serving notice period for the past month. My LWD as communicated by Manager and HR is mid June. However my manager has asked me to complete my project KT by April end. Since my dependency in other projects is negligible, i believe i will be let go after April.
Since I joined this company in mid May 2023, i will be 15-20 days short of completing 1 year at this company.

I have some personal issues to focus on for next few months, so I am not planning to work for the next 6 months. How much will the experience and career break affect my chances to get interviews?

Background: B.Tech + MBA (Tier-1)

Engineering Manager

I have total 6 years of experience working in product strategy roles in a couple of known unicorns and from tier 1 engg and MBA colleges. 

My team was dissolved back in nov 2022. I have been on a break since then as i had to oversee construction of our rental property back in my hometown. It was long pending. It is a vital income stream for my family. 

I have been trying for a job for last 2 weeks. I haven't been able to get interviews aligned in product / strategy domain.

Now I am getting restless. I don't know why hiring POCs are not reverting to my interests. Need help here folks. Am I in a soup due to career gap? What can I do to overcome this situation? Good ideas are highly welcome :)

I am working as a senior product manager in a fintech startup. I am under a lot of stress due to work pressure, continuous badgering from business and tech stakeholders and loneliness. I always think of going home but staying in stressful job mainly because I don't want to be jobless. I can only post my views here anonymously because I don't want to be seen as loser. PS : As far as my profile is concerned it's B tech + MBA from tier 1 college and 3 years of tech experience followed by 7 yrs into Product Management and living alone in Bangalore.

Deteriorating mental health

I did my BTech in Civil Engineering and have 2 years of experience but I left my job for Govt job preparation and since then 4 years have passed. Can anyone please help me with a direction? What can I do ? I will put full effort to it but what can be a good career option for me now? It would be really kind of you if you please help me out ..

Need help

I've done my Btech in EC from NIT. Worked for 2Y as a dev in IT Services co. Then I did my MBA from one of the old IIMs. 
Got placed as a "Consultant" in one IT services co, where JD said the role is client facing and business centric. Have been working here for close to 2Y. Basically I'm part of an Agile project team, as another Dev/QA resource. I basically do QA for project releases and occasional SQL scripting. Tried internally to switch to a Project/BA role but this experience is hindering me. Outside it's even worse as I don't even get shortlisted.
I believe I have good skills to excel in Product/BA/Project roles. But not getting them as I don't have any prior experience. My confidence is very low now and my career seems to go nowhere.

The pay is also worse, 21.6LPA currently ( of which 17.6 is fixed). I'm not complaining and this money is a lot for most people. But it's not even close to what my juniors after 2 batches earn. 

The only upside in my job is no pressure and can work remotely most days.

What should I do ?
Shall I learn AI/ML and move to an Individual Contributor role ? How to get shortlisted for these after prep?

Any advice or leads would be helpful, TIA.

Sales Manager

I am planning to shut down my IT services company after 5 years of operations. The journey has been bitter-sweet but it is becoming unsustainable and putting me under a great amount of duress.
I have been a trained ML engineer but since my startup have gone on to taking up mostly non-programming roles/ work.
I have tried getting back to development role but have not been able to get back in the same stride as I used to. Lately, I’ve been picking up some consulting work as a Software Architect.
Basis, that info, need some advice on how I can plan my professional journey ahead.

I want to quit my job and take a break. 

I Have been contemplating to do the same for almost an year but decided not to do it. So many things have happened since then

1. Layoff wave started in india
2. Got married
3. Had to move back to bangalore from hometown

Reason I want to quit is I don't feel like working , feeling bored and work doesn't interest me that much. 

I want to take a break chill for a bit but don't have guts to do the same considering market conditions ( what if I don't get a job when I am back in the market😅)

Career breaks

Rejected BPO offer from TCS and TechM back in 2017. Sitting for six years at home. Prepared for CAT, XAT , IIFT, SNAP, TISS, XGMT, SRCC, NMAT, CMAT. Didn't secure a good percentile. Stopped preparing for MBA entrances and started preparing for govt exams.  Still not able to clear any.  B.com grad with accounting hon. No int in CA/CS. Zero experience at anything.  Currently depressed to a point that I have no energy doing anything. Need help.

No idea about career.

I am 26M with close to 3 years of work experience and a MBA from a tier 1 college. I make decent salary, however I am not really enjoying my job. I am also depressed from working very hard the past 5 years with graduation, Covid and job Etc. I just want to take a few months off and focus on my mental/physical health. I also want to prepare for Product roles and try out some business/freelancing ideas I have.

My concern is how Career gaps are treated like a stigma in the industry. Like what was the use of working so hard and getting qualifications, if I cannot take a few months in between jobs to focus on myself. Can someone help me get some perspective?
