I see jobs being there, but even the entry level jobs are requiring experience. I saw a associate level job posting on linkedin for a startup asking for 4-6 years experience. This is in line with the recent article at The KEN. Are people really ready to work for low salary for high skills? What does this mean for the freshers, job switchers/career switchers? Are we all doomed for now? What's your take on the market?

I graduated in June this year and have been struggling to find a job despite all my efforts. I was offered a position at TCS Digital, but it feels like a letdown after all the preparation I’ve done. For the past year, I’ve been solving DSA problems and developing apps, but the job search has been incredibly challenging. I even interned at IIT, yet I still can’t land a job. It’s so frustrating to see people who don’t have the same level of development or problem-solving skills get hired while I go from one interview to the next. I’ve been applying to 3-5 jobs daily for the last six months, and I’ve only received a few interview calls. In one case, I made it to the final round after excelling in three technical rounds, but I was rejected after the founders’ round without any feedback. I was led to believe I had done extremely well, which made the rejection even harder. During campus placements, I reached the final rounds of interviews with decent companies, but I was always rejected after reaching the top 5. Other companies either ghost or give out task rounds where you compete with devs who have 3-5 years of industry experience. It’s insane. I’m fortunate that I don’t have to support my family financially, thanks to my well-off parents, but it’s still disheartening. On top of all this, the focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives is tough to navigate. All the top companies that came to my college—Flipkart, Myntra, Amazon, Adobe—had female-only hiring tags. I thought I could make it through hackathons, but now even those are women-only. I am not blaming women nor do I mean to knock their hustle but I hope you can understand how difficult it is to deal with quotas in this market. I can’t figure out where I’m going wrong. I network heavily on LinkedIn, have strong communication skills, have been grinding LeetCode, and participate in hackathons while developing apps for fun, but I still can’t seem to land a job. PS: If anyone can help with advice or referrals, I’d be grateful. Thanks for bearing with my harangue.

I am 2023 grad. I have joined a product based company. Next year, I want to join a good company like Rubrik, Uber, DE Shaw, Bloomberg etc. What should I learn? How to utilise this year to switch to a good company? PS: For me, a good company means high salary and challenging work environment. I don't care about work life balance.

I am in 2nd year in college pursuing computer science..so far most of the time i do competitive programming and sometimes web development..i am working hard but because of the never ending depressing posts on LinkedIn and blind about layoffs and recession plus no hiring in big tech..i feel that all my hard work will be not worth it in future..also the people have made this wonderful field a joke by this standup comedians who joke about engineers every time.........i really want to contribute to this society and earn great amount of money as well but the hope is decreasing day by day.. What should I do😔😢?

I have ~1yr of work experience. I am trying LinkedIn, Wellfound, Naukri, YC and everything else I come across. But every position i see requires a minimum 2yrs of experience. Even for the junior roles. Even for the fresher roles. Recently I saw a jr front-end dev position with 7lpa package he that required 3yrs of work experience. If luckily there's any job for <2yrs gang, it's underpaid, requires to work on weekends, need to be in blr / hyd immediately. Not to mention that I'm hardly getting any responses back. I don't even get rejection emails these days. I am just tired at this point. I don't know what do to. It feels like everything I have done so far is a waste.

People in tech are in over their heads. There’s been an unsustainable inflation in salaries and somehow 20 somethings have actually started believing their skills are worth what they’re making I speak to so many engineers who just with two years of experience are making 30-40 LPA packages. They actually believe they are better than people in say banking who make the same salary after 15 years of grinding it out. It’s all supply-demand. Supply will soon catch up to the demand. Salary normalization will happen. Your salaries may not grow for years if you don’t personally grow as well in skill set and become more valuable overall. At the least, don’t have an attitude about how much you make. Stay humble. Enjoy the good times while they are still here
