Thoughts on the inflated hotel price in India?

Lately, I observed that Indian hotels are so expensive to afford. No decent chain operated hotels are less than 10k INR. It increases even more once you try booking around a long weekend. I understand demand-supply etc but paying 30-35K for a 2-3 day stay is just exorbitant.

Too much Twitter for the day I guess

A decent burger or Small pizza on Zomato is Rs 300+; A coffee at Starbucks is now 450; Movie tickets are 400; the average cost of a weekend drinks and dinner with friends is above 2K; Lets not even talk about how expensive rent is right now. It feels like the cost of everything is just rising and salaries are not growing fast enough to make up for the rising costs

Was flooded with ads about restaurants with Sufi nights and what not, so I'd thought I'd ask one about their rates, and damn, at these prices they better give me a gold souvenir when I leave

Whenever I read foreign media outlets, India is the new Asian Tiger that will outpace most emerging economies in growth. But Indian media and Indian people act like India is the worst place to be. The dichotomy is extremely confusing. Why is it that foreign media coverage on our economy is more favourable than our own hopes and aspirations from this country? PS: I am really big on Indian Exceptionalism, the belief that India's economic development and trajectory are unique or exceptional compared to other nations, driven by our large and diverse population, thriving middle class, our entrepreneurial spirit, and the emphasis on technology and innovation. Recently my friends moved to 4 BHK apartment near Domlur. The total rent is coming to 1 Lakh for unfurnished apartment, it has some really good amenities. All 3 of them have offices nearby, and I work remotely for a US startup. After, furnishing and one time setup, just rent is coming to 32k. I am unsure, whether moving there would be worth it or not for me. I really enjoy company of my friends, but the rent for me is expensive + 6 months deposit. I can definitely afford to pay that much rent, but not sure whether it’ll be good decision or not because of market conditions and tons of uncertainties. I cannot back out if I say yes. I am super confused, one side I want to stay with friends and on other side rent and deposit is worrying me. Would love to hear thoughts of you all. 🙏

Writing this from the lobby of a good hotel in the city There are 3 types of people I see around me: 1. Foreigners (50%): Mostly on business travel. From various countries. Their economies and companies can afford to pay for this, it's nothing. Some with family, so maybe just traveling India in a luxury way. 2. People like me (20%): Indian corporate folks. Working at consulting/VC/MNCs etc. My company pays for this. But there's a deep cost. I work 12-14 hour days. I don't enjoy the hotel as much. We are pretty much slaves, by choice. 3. Indian business folk (30%): The thieves. They expense all of this to their business. Every expense to them is at a discount, because they can use it to show losses on their books, and get away with tax. They live better lives than us. We are not them. Income tax crossing corporate tax data point really struck with me. Governments have started giving more freebies. We enjoy fewer public facilities. The only reason to be in India is that I love the friends and family here. But otherwise, as a salaried employee (as we all are), we should know that we're kind of being duped.
