Story Time - 1. A few weeks ago, an old friend reached out to me for help in finding a PM role. 2. She got laid off from her first PM role ( before that she worked as an engineer). 3. Recommended her to a few places but everywhere she faced rejection. Learning this, I thought maybe I could help her prepare. She also wanted to do mocks as rejections impacted her morale. During this prep phase, I realised her PM skills certainly need significant improvements. But unfortunately, we realised very soon that person wasn’t ready to improve. She defended all the mistakes shamefully. It’s been almost 4-5 months now & she’s not able to secure a role. Worst thing is that she started giving PM Gyaan on topmate, unfortunately anyone can become mentor nowadays without knowing the fundamentals. Baseline - People should be well aware of such inexperienced mentors as they can screw your mindset, and money with limited real knowledge.
