Been thinking about going for an international trip lately. Asked a bunch of friends, but it looks like it's just gonna be me. Anyone here who has travelled solo? Thoughts on those "Make My Trip" packages? Or any other cool recommendations?
Vietnam, went to Hanoi The place is a breeze, use technology a lot. And say no to people trying to offer anything
Traveled solo quite a bit this year. Vietnam for 15 days, Dubai for 10 days, Bali + Gili for 20 days and currently in Thailand for the past 1 week.
Visa - useteleport.com
Stay - I mostly try to stay in hostels or hotels. Donāt feel safe in airbnbs as a woman. Hostels on hostelworld, hotels on booking.com
Flights - easemytrip (I have offer since I have a dbs card but Iām sure there are better credit card perks)
I usually plan my cities and keep the rest flexible. For example, I was in Koh tao last week and was supposed to stay there for 3 days. Loved the place, so extended it to 1 week. Local agencies offer better price for inter city buses and ferries esp in Vietnam. I donāt book them in advance.
Also consider metanoia expeditions, they curate really good trips.
Hostel world and couch surfing events are good to find company or groups to do certain activities.
I went to the UK for my first solo trip last year. Itās a fairly easy place to travel solo to; everyone speaks English, loads to stuff to see, good public transport, etc.
I interacted with so many people from around the world which I definitely wouldnāt have done had I gone there with friends or family. Itās also easier to get entry/access to pubs, restaurants and events if itās just one person.
Also, the itinerary is totally up to you. Wanna sit at a park for two hours? Sure! Wanna skip some extremely popular spot? No worries!
That being said, it might not be for everyone; you must be comfortable being alone with your own thoughts without feeling weird. There were a few times when I felt lonely, but I was able to embrace it. However Iād definitely recommend at least one solo trip in your lifetime. Iām going solo again this December for my next :)
I am going on my first solo domestic trip to Kanyakumari next month.
Booked stay from MakeMyTrip and flight from indigo. If you have any tricks, lemme know so I can use next time.
To plan the trip, I am using Wandrrlog(.)com. It's best. Can manage everything from stay, travel, itinerary, places to visit, restaurants to try, everything. Do give it a try.
If you don't mind can you share your budget
Nice thanks for the suggestions @sisyphus. The only trick that I know is for flights š . You can use Skyscanner to search for cheapest flights and compare from other websites that's pretty much it but do let me know about ur experience have a great trip ahead š
Went to japan on a solo trip. It was fun.
Details please! How easy/difficult was the visa process, duration, itinerary etc. Please enlighten!
Visa: got invitation from someone I know who is a resident. Process takes max one week. And almost never gets rejected for tourists. I went myself in mumbai to the consulate and got it done. Duration: 1 month. I had place to stay in osaka so that was free. But in tokyo had to book a hotel.
Expenses. Close to 1L for the month. Again this is because 3 weeks free stay. But spent a lot on shopping because everything was too cheap when I went.
Itinerary: went to nara, kyoto, via osaka. Back and forth. Spent a day in nara, and kyoto. Covered main places only. In osaka, went to cup ramen museum. Usj, dotonbouri, mozu, osaka castle and bruno mars concertāŗļø. Tokyo went to teamLabs, ghibli studio. Yokohama via Tokyo, gundam factory, ramen museum. You can also do mario kart and other touristy stuff from yt. Also, definitely try attending a concert in japan. It is so good. It is very organised and youāll be amazed!
PS: I have been to japan twice with family so visted a few places again and some new.
Packaged experiences are for families and older folk. When you're young, if you can afford it, go backpacking in the summer in Europe - the place has such a positive vibe in summer. A more budget solo trip can be done in Thailand or Vietnam. Thailand is highly recommended because it's affordable and has excellent hospitality overall (though Indians have made a bad name for themselves by seeking prostitution everywhere in Thailand).
Travel light, have at least 2 pairs of durable walking shoes, and have at least 8 pairs of undergarments if you're going for 15 days or more. If you're going to Europe, travel by train. Spend your money less on alcohol, more on local food and experiences. Opt for experiences via GuruWalk, GetYourGuide or Airbnb experiences because you'll meet a diverse lot of people. Do not go for adventure experiences because any broken body part will get you into an insurance claim hell. Stay in international hostels like Hostelling International or whatever is the best hostel of the region because you'll get to meet very different people.
Hey, I have led a couple of travel companies and consulting one these days. I would be happy to help you plan this out. Please help me understand, do you prefer a DIY solo trip where you could discover and explore on your own or do you prefer a group trip with like minded but unknown people? Also pls tell me if you have any other specific preferences and I'll share some suggestions then :)
Hi, I am looking for this like minded but unknown people to travel along. Can you please share something on this .
Check out these companies that organize group tours for like minded people (you can join the group as a solo traveler or with your friends). I am assuming that you are 18-35 yrs old :) so I am sharing a few companies that offer tours with an age restriction to ensure you get to travel with people from the same age group (18-39). Hope this helps :)

Slow long travel alone :)

Checkout metanoia expeditions and whenincity for solo group trips. Went on a few in the last year and it's been amazing. Great crowd, no overhead of planning and figuring things out and you know what to expect.
I came across these after i was tired of convincing my friends to come along and I just gave up one day and booked my first trip. Best decision ever.
