Unhealthy ChatGPT usage destroying my career in the long run?
Help me write a reddit post explaining my concern:
Hi guys! I have done my gradutation in BE Computer Engineering (2023 batch)
Did not get a job on campus as i was on a long holiday trip for a few months during placements when most companies came.
I am from a covid batch ,spent 2.5 years of semesters at home (5 sems) and i didnt gain any skills during my whole engineering like trust me ( all i knew was syntax of html,c++ and python i even doubt if i knew this lol)
My group members had made our final project ,ekdum complex ML project (mera usme daane bhar ka bhi contribution nahi tha)
So didnt find a job on campus...
next phase:
Tried gaining some skills handson basic skills ( i did but literally nothing compared to what a engineer graduate should know,gained skills which people probably gain in first sem)
Next phase:
Couldnt find a job, Did this course called CDAC (Center for development of advanced computing) from pune ,it was almost a 6month long course ,learned full stack there with hands on( JAVA,SPRINGBOOT,REACT,SOME DEVOPS TOOLS, C#,.net) stuff like this.....
They too had campus placements,found one job but too low pay (which was fine) but also was wayy far from my home (mumbai) and it was in hyderabad for 4lpa + 3 years of bond ,didnt go for it.
Was not allowed to sit for placements further as i rejected the offer.
next phase:
Spent 1.5 months at home,Didnt really apply for jobs(just one day lol)
Started prepping for GATE
Found out my sister's friend has a startup , a well known startup in the edtech area (around 10 years old) Quite a good startup ,good funds and self sustained ,they have kept a very small tech team like 30-40 max
So anyway i get a call , i send my resume, 1-2 weeks later I go down to their office ,they ask me how good and familiar i am with AI TOOLS ,first i thought they were asking about AI algos(like linear regression n all) but ya i told them I use chatgpt's 4o version
You are so so fucked bro. This is going to be the death knell on your career.

They give me a task,to make a console which takes in a JSON and converts some of the keys to any language selected by the user (they wanted so they can diversify their courses in other languages) ,had to use the AI assistant APIS to do this
Did that task for around 2-3 weeks(4-5 meetings and improvements for accuracy)
They select me and the good thing about this job was ,it was close to my house,decent money considering staying at home and as a fresher same salary as the hyderabad's job without bond but literally in hand would be 40k
and the best part probably is idk it just sounds too cool the role they offered me is Software Engineer (Advanced AI Applications) idk but i felt this job title might help me in the future
Anyway I get 3-4 tasks assigned on first day
I start off with one which includes Excel And also using OpenAI or Gemini's APIs and NLTK too
and as i was good at java and all and never in python and these libraries(never even tried them) I didnt know what to do and all i could do is chatgpt
So now I use So much of chatgpt because i have no option, i was given a task and I need to complete it if i start learning python and its required libraries for the project it would take massive amount of time,literally I DO EVERYHTING ON CHATGPT MORE THAN 100+ prompts a day for sure
Even the small changes i do it through chatgpt (i dont use my logic mostly unless corrections are to be made or i dont even type a single line of code as idk much bout python pandas or nltk)
yesterday one of the co worker(10 years experience) he must have seen me using it a lot ,he suggested not to use chatgpt so much as it will not help me in the long run and can destroy my career in the future as I wont be building logic,practicing writing code (syntax and style)and that a lot of big tech companies have even banned using of chatgpt I am ashamed and idk what to do ... Please Tell me the best possible way to deal with this :) No hate comments please
THERES ALSO 3 Month probation so im really scared!
If you can use chat gpt to build produftion grade system that is good too but yah its worth creating a full fledged high trafic higj available system at yr own use java react if u like but that will make u a hero logical th8nkinh and prompt expert that is skill f9r next 2 yrs
This is an opportunity my friend.
I would suggest you put in atleast 100hrs/week and upskill yourself as much as possible. You have been able to get your foot in the door. Which is the toughest task.
Now all you need to do is put in the effort here for a couple of months which you should have put in during your college days.
Work and learn here for 1-2 years and then switch.
Bro, don't take stress. In my opinion, just start from scratch and solve the problem yourself. If needed, review the fundamental subjects again. Or for implementing the new features or technology prefer the official docs. It's never too late. And don't rely on chatGPT anymore; it can harm you in the future.
