🕵‍♀️Web3 and COVID killed Hackathon Culture

Remember when I was in college, we had a really great hackathon culture, being conducted offline in Bangalore. AngelHack, Amazon Sambhav, FutureSkills by Nasscom, Ideathon. After COVID hit and Web3 became a buzzword, all I see is web3 hackathons where folks just copy a pre-written smart contract from GitHub and it doesn't even work. Most of these are online where you don't even get to see what others have built. I have seen someone winning 3rd prize by showing Figma prototype 🤦‍♀️. Same goes for meetups as well. Really miss the days where we had no clue on Friday what we're going to build and coming home with $500 in prize on Monday mornings. If you're aware of any good hackathons happening this year, please let me know.

I've made 32lakhs post TDS just from hackathons in COVID. Pre COVID ihad only made 8lakhs lifetime from hackathons (gojek, kalaari, etc) Namely - Amazon Sambhav, Rapyd, Ondc, Bank of baroda, Microsoft and few other web3 startups who don't exists anymore 😂 Platforms - Devpost, dare2compete, skillenza, devfolio. COVID has been a blessing for me. It's easier to fake web3 and ai products in online rather than in person hackathons. I've literally won 3 hackathons just by showing chatbots, my friend was on the other side pretending to be a bot, replying smartly to my messages 😂

Hackathon Quality

Sequoia India used to host a hackathon. That used to be some epic stuff. Lots of really good devs used to come and make some kickass products. Post that I have been to numerous hackathon and it rarely makes a dent in quality of outputs. What do you guys think we can do to make hackathons great again? Most of the events these days are closed events for within a company. I'll start with some suggestions: 1. Have a decent prize money 2. Output should be judged on factors like completeness, business readiness, quality, usecase definition etc 3. Have good sponsors backing the cause so that we get awareness about the event. 4. Also support good innovation as well. Not like yet another Chat GPT coding assistant Please add on to this. How can we have a great one again. Looking for ideas and if we end up with a decent suggestion then we can try to setup a hackathon of our own completely.

Need guidance

I am from a tier 3 college, going to graduate in 2024. With all these layoffs, recession scene going on I am completely stressed out. My college started pretty late, I am in third year within just 1 year of offline college and 1 year of online. Didn't really get time to learn and explore initially, I haven't done much development neither LeetCode, I feel like I am effed now. What and how should I start getting a grip on things? I have done basic HTML, CSS, know python and basics of JS plus Java, C and C++. I really want some guidance on how to proceed ahead with learning development, I really want a job and get out of my toxic household.

How to find hackathons in Bengaluru?

Hey Folks, I'm a software engineer with around 2yoe. My goal for this year is to get very good at tech (frontend and Backend). Currently I'm a Frontend Engineer working with React. I've selected Golang for the backend in order to create software. I want to start participating by the end of this year and next in many hackathons. I tried searching on Google but there are a lot of fake sites giving 0 information regarding this. How do I find where hackathons are happening in and around the city?
