TLDR : There's no golden list of startups that would turn out to be amazing to work at. 
  
 I've never heard of a startup that is unquestionably good to work for. 
  
 Over 80% opportunities will fall into a combo of (1) good startup + bad manager and team, (2) bad startup + good manager and team. 
  
 Based on my experience + xp of peers, the only time working at a startup has been fruitful is when we knew at least 1 of the founding members personally. 
  
 This gave us an unfiltered view of the team's ability to succeed and how the culture may look like. 
  
 So yes, a very subjective question. The list of suitable startups varies based on your work style and preferences.

I have been working in the startup space for around 4 years now. The primary reason so far has been the learning and work I do. But lately I have started to question why not go to a good company and chill a bit. What makes more sense spending next 3-4 years in  a big company then coming back to the start up space?

I recently got laid off from my Company (they are unfortunately shutting down all major operations apart from sales) 
I worked to improve the company culture - benefits, engagement, learning and dev, wellness, cross team and inter city collaboration. 
Now that im job hunting, Im finding it incredibly difficult to find roles where the title of "people and culture" justifies the job description that is followed. Most often, the JD is an operations role where you only work on managing employee data, help with recruitment etc.

I have been working as engineering manager in a startup. I was promised remote job but now company calling to office location. In current year, the company didnt give more then 5% salary growth and keep promising growth in the future as company grows but do founders or top management really care about employees? 

I seen one of my ex company its happening but not sure if founders really keep their promises about employees will get salary growth as company grows. I feel they take lavish salary but keep the employees underpaid.

Let me know your thoughts or your own experience. Work life balance is good though so I don’t want to really leave the company it actually it happens

I work for a big corp. ~6YOE. 48L.

The work culture here seems a bit off. Constant pressure to compete and snatch the work and prove oneself. Chaos is being glorified. Onsite team is unresponsive and hiding information. Asking for a KT is being judged upon(expectation is apparently to read through the code). Everyone is trying to earn brownie points by impressing the manage because no one seems to know what to work upon. Technical ability is being looked down upon in the name of domain knowledge.

I switched recently to upskill and grow, but seems like it was a wrong choice.

I’m looking for early stage startups to switch to. I know the current market situation is bad, but I’d take the risk as long as I’m getting to expose myself to good problem statements and less bullshit.

With well funded startups I see a few benefits - 
1. Not being cash strapped so more stability
2. Large scale so good exposure and impact 
3. Good engineering practices as large startups are open to adopt and provide resources for learning and integrating new technologies
4. Company still has speed of execution hence plenty of exciting work
5. Comparable pay scale to big tech companies
