What's stopping everyone from working in a Tier 2 or tier 3 city?
I know a lot of companies are hiring for roles with competitive offers that are in sync with Bengaluru, Pune, Gurgaon, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Why not stay away from metros given the right opportunities? Would love to hear your thoughts.
I like having lots of options in Swiggy Zomato and quick deliveries via Flipkart and Amazon.

Hahahaha, why do people aspire to be in a Tier 1 city then?
Paise to Tier 2 & Tier 3 city ka milkman, ek average software engineer se jyada banata hai.

@BiryaniEnthu bro if you’re actually freelancing/remote full time, then consider Dehradun. It has an airport, great cafes, hospitals, schools, and amazing mountain views. You can just hop to different hillstations/mountains any weekend for a hike/trek.

It’s super easy to get bored in a Tier 2 city. You can explore everything that the city has to offer in less than a year. After that, it gets repetitive.
Plus, the competitive edge and opportunities you get by talking to people and participating in offline events is unreal. While this is difficult in a Tier 1 city, it’s impossible in Tier 2. In a Tier 1 city, I can have go meet folks working on a variety of different things and everyone will be in a 30km radius. In a tier 2 city, I might be able to learn about business and India 2/3’s necessities but never about India 1.

Why work in a tier 2 city when i can hop 5 pubs at tier 1? There is no social life in a tier 2 city.

I live in Tier3 city (Remote Job). Cost of living is very less, And I get to eat everything fresh like Vegetables, Milk, Meat.., it’s a luxury these days . Plenty of restaurants, movies available as well.
As others are pointed out I don’t get bored, married with Kid and no pub person as well. I absolutely enjoy everyday sunrise, greenery, fresh air and calmness.

Fewer job opportunities, and poor access to quality healthcare, fewer shopping, food, & entertainment choices, and lack of ease of delivery apps like Blinkit, Swiggy. Also, not much difference in rent compared to suburbs of major cities.
Only reason I would consider moving to a Tier 2 or 3 city if I had parents / family living there, which I don't happen to have.

Healthcare is the biggest factor for me. I've working from a tier 2 city for the past 3 years, and I can say it sucks.

Would just list my journey here -
Been in Bangalore for 7 years now, worked with amazing companies, made good network, know everyone from lawyers to pms to ai folks who would instantly reply to my message when required.
Got married two years back, wife started her business, its doing well and we have good savings.
Plan to do baby in 2 years and hence moving to. Tier 2 ( more like 2.5 ) in next 6 months
WHY -
COST EFFECTIVE - can get house with garden and roof in 20k, currently pay 60k for a 3bhk
Quality of life - fresh veggies , no traffic, garden, sunlight, freedom to travel in mountains ( moving to uttarakhand)
RECLAIM MY TIME - I think I have gained everything there was to gain from Bangalore - problem solving, fund raising, hustling, good connections. Now I want my TIME BACK which i can spend with my wife and my dog and my future kids. For that i need to work less and for that i need to spend less.
Thats my story - i am specifically optimising on reclaiming my time. I can work a remote job, claim half the salary i was drawing right now and still live a good life ( big house , full time servant, good car, good locally sourced food , personal fitness) and hence moving from here makes 100% sense to me now.

I am ready to move if I get similar compensation.
I have a slightly nuanced take on this entire Tier1 vs Tier2/3 life debate. This approach has also helped me to internally calm my longing to move to my hometown in Ranchi.
See it depends on the PACE of life you want. Young & good earning folks generally have aspirations to explore a lot around them in all the fields - jobs, travel, entertainment, social circles etc. All of this is definitively easier in Tier1, and let’s be honest, the quality of life is indeed better.
Now some people want this their entire life, but some graduates to a slower lifestyle where social circles are limited voluntarily and you are generally well off also to free up a lot of time.
That is the time when I probably would want to move to a calmer location, have passion projects as side businesses.
But for now, the PACE requirement is high so a Tier2/3 city wouldn’t cut it.
PS - This view is for knowledge workers specifically.
Name some remote cos? Is it only for SDEs or for Product as well?
Can you share a few? I'm looking for product roles but had to reject some good offers bcz don't want to relocate. Saw that a lot of companies are hiring but mostly for Blr
tier 2 - peaceful life, better food, less population, less rents
if your work can be done from where ever we go, i better choose slow growth and peaceful life and spending life in fuckin traffic
I was in a Tier 2 for 3 years working remotely in pandemic. Lack of judgment, small town gossip mentality and more freedom, less restriction is why Tier 1 is better any day.
Which companies are hiring in cities smaller than Pune ? Do you know of any company that pays even 60% of what is paid in Tier 1 for same experience and role ? Can you share names if you're aware ?

I’m from a Tier 2/3 city and would rn enter a lifetime contract with any company that might be hiring in them, for the same salary I’m getting paid now.
But no one is💁🏻
Why would you want a higher salary when the cost of living is higher in the tier 1 cities?
Will prefer to work from Tier 2 city, which is around 2-3 hours from a Tier 1 city. Only reason is Hospital.
I can relate to this and I have actually done the same. A person works for 5 days during which he/she is busy so there is not much time for entertainment but on the weekends if one wants then they can easily go to the city in 2 to 3 hrs.. otherwise select a tier 2 city that has come under the Smart City development scheme by the government.
Yeah.. exactly,,, Living in Tier 2 city or Tier 3 city is comparatively cheaper as well. I am so looking forward to a remote work or Tier 2, 3 city job.
For me, it's about the environment. For example: You won't be able to book a proper badminton court in tier 2/3 cities.
