Why are people so obsessed with FAANG tag ?

I was interning at Microsoft and got the PPO as well. But I chose to join a remote startup and resigned from Microsoft, for various reasons including Pay, Learning, Product, Tech stack, etc.

And everyone I talked with since then has asked the same thing, "bro why did you leave Microsoft?", "bro Microsoft is such a big brand", blah blah.

When are we going to realize that working for a FAANG /MAANG /FAANGMULA /LODALASAN company is not the ultimate goal of everyone's life ?

I left Amazon for a Unicorn startup and people said I couldn't be more wrong. The startup was paying more and had way better culture.

Most of the folks aren't aware of the ground realities of faang and think leaving faang is a crime.
I completely blame it on the edtechs and YouTuber influenzas who brainwash students/naive folks for making money by selling these brands.

Bhai bachpan se tags ke peeche hi toh bhaage hain. Nothing different now.

Oh I'm in XYZ tuition (middle school) Oh I'm in XYZ coaching (high school) Oh I'm in XYZ college Oh I'm intern in XYZ Oh I'm in XYZ company

Its just hype market. Nothing new. If you are happy, your bank is happy. Why care about anyone else?

I'm also in an unknown startup. My peers are in MNCs and they continue to ask me why I'm not joining them bla bla.

I look at their (mostly) miserable micromanaged lives and feel grateful how peaceful it is at my company. Won't leave it for the world.

Good Money, Pre-Existing respect of the company transfers a similar respect to the employee, More relaxed as stated by my FAANG friends when compared to toher companies.
