Why does this diversity thing exist?

By being born as a male and in a general category, you carry privilege that you end up being accustomed to, and therefore oblivious of its existence. Sure, others will get opportunities ahead of you – however, it is a step towards their acceptance in society that is governed by upper-caste people to this day (and no, the common argument against this with anecdotal evidence of personal examples of rich SC/STs doesn't work – most people under the reserved categories are poor and bear low socioeconomic status, even in urban areas and cities. Just go read a social science book.) In other words, let me give you a two-line explainer on how "diversity" helps: it gives people and the circles they belong in a larger view on things. Instead of sticking to the same old thing, you're able to see different sides of people, culture, and life.

Women stick longer to an employer than men, so attrition costs are lower. A minimum Gender ratio in the workforce is needed to avoid male groupthink. The market that these MNCs serve is 50% women, right. Esp for FMCGs, ECom, Textiles etc, where purchase decisions are mostly women. A friend in Myntra once said that 90% of their customers and value of sales is from women. So it is a no brainer for these firms.

Assume the guys and girls being hired are same level of competence and experience. Would you rather work in a place with more guys or a balanced gender ratio? Most likely your response will be latter because most people don't like sausage fests. But number of women in engineering and stem is less overall. Hence, diversity hiring.

It’s pr. Most jobs at MNCs are fake jobs anyway and don’t really add any value. Hiring women shows they are pro equity, pro inclusion, and score brownie points with investors and customers. The downsides of not doing it are bad pr, rags like nyt or wapo writing hit pieces on you etc. Why the left/dems try to force it: they promoted education loans for shitty degrees mostly chosen by women. Like gender studies, psychology, etc. now if these women dont find jobs w salary to pay off the loans, they will blame left. Only sectors which flourished in last 30-40 years were merit based. Now that is gone from tech, next sector would be merit based too. Certainly not tech. PS i know ai is hot, but that requires serious understanding of base maths involved. Women are likely gonna be talking about ethics and pick up those roles.

Paisa ka chakkar babu bhaiya, most women don’t switch roles as much. Hence they are a lower risk for the company. It may never have been about inclusion or diversity is my strong guess. 🤷
