WFH or WFO is based on years of experience.
For most of Gen X and Millennials - they have worked in WFO setup and cannot think beyond. For them, it is their comfort zone.
But younger generations (Gen Z) started in remote culture; for them WFO is a pain altogether. Many of them have started their own agencies, 100% remote always.
Both have pros and cons. If you get a choice, choose whatever fits you.

yes makes sense to go remote and Downsize office ko , Hamara office office mode main tha , leadership wanted to downsize the office costs and spend more on acquistions and core product and services , so they did that bought a new company which complements them ,. and in lockdown went on permanent WFH and then gave all office space , except some minimal office space for some collaboration and discussions and client meets. 90 percent of employees WFH and only Show Shinners come to office . and some buddy buddy gang who also boot lick each other .

If this were universally true then no companies would have come up during covid and lot of existing companies would’ve simply shut down; and yet companies like google and microsoft continue to offer remote work to employees.
Setting up for success as a remote or even hybrid company is not at all easy but still very doable

WFH - Good for folks who enjoy peace of mind, focus and get some music in the room and enjoy paper and pen and writing code without the interference of anyone who pings you every minute
WFO - Good for folks who are always enthusiastic and want everyone to jump on the wagon of their success metrics at one time and be the king of jungle with loud talking in their own accent in the corridors which gives out a feel of them working hard or always thinking about idea.
This post seems like bait, but I'll bite - this is Grade A BS.
If you believe this, you're just in the wrong company.
I like to roughly categorize tangible work into 4 types -
1. Deep individual work
2. Passive/low-leverage individual work
3. Passive/low-leverage collaboration
4. Deep collaboration
For the benefit of this conversation, I'll add 2 intangibles -
1. Work culture-building
2. Interpersonal relationships
Tangible work, first 3 points either work better or the same when WFH. Deep collab is the only thing worth going to office for.
Intangibles, you can 100% build a work culture remote, there are 100s of companies that have done this successfully. Interpersonal relationships, yes, are better in WFO.
I go into work twice a week, and much of it goes in meetings where people don't document outcomes (because "You said it to my face, how can you not remember or follow up on your words?") and a million breaks.
Useful WFO days are roughly 30-40%, at the most. Not to mention that traveling to work burns you out more than work itself.

If you hire responsible experienced people, then you can easily get work done remotely (generally with higher productivity).
If you hire freshers mostly (50-70%+ who do actual work) like WITCH companies due to budget constraints or just being cheap, and experienced responsible people don't generally stay with you then yeah you need an oversight on them.
If even with the former you aren't getting shit done, then either your hiring process is broken or you don't understand asynchronous communication.
The brain thing if you're super adamant, you can meet once a week every quarter or 6 months, have agendas and discussion. Chart out your quarterly plan and then everybody goes home and execute it.
Or maybe you just want to micromange people and tell you how great you are in person (bootlicking), then yeah hybrid or WFO is for you.

I have worked in office and remote. I can say for sure Remote is way better especially for a startup. These are some points from personal experience.
- Everything is documented. In office we used to just tell someone to do something verbally and there was high chance that he will forget it. In remote, messages act as a reminder for them.
- No commute. The biggest perk of all. Employers are just paying for 9 hours but you as an employee are loosing extra 2-3 hours and money. Because of remote save that time can save on rent as well.
- More time. The time saved from no commute can be used for self care (which a lot of people lack because of time constraints).
All of these improved company wide documentation and productivity.
More points:
1) For anyone wondering we are a profitable bootstrapped start up of the about 25 people.
2) A lot of our team members are freshers and intern. If you pay them atleast above the average market rate then, you will attract a lot of reliable and hard working freshers. Then you won't have to go on twitter and LinkedIn to bitch about how they are moonlighting or how it is important for freshers to WFO.
3) Although we have a great relationship among us, from next year we will most probably start office trips for more fun and better relationships.
These VCs, entrepreneurs and managers are hardly ever in the office. Them telling you benefits of WFO is like an actor telling you benefits of a new medicine. It might look like they are experienced in the topic of discussion but in reality they hardly have any idea about it. They are just saying it for their own benefits.
