My friend-she absconded from a company without any intimation and joined another company but now after 2.8years.HRs suddenly called her and was asking about this her UAN account and if she has relieving letter or something from previous company.
Your friend will be in trouble man. The new company will conduct background verification from the previous company and the entire matter will be revealed. Also, the old compamy can initiate legal action if their assets and bond money (if any) is not returned to them. Btw why did she abscond and not serve the notice period?
2.8 ~ 3Yrs is too long a time for all these. Either previous company was naive or this company is.
Just tell your friend to relax, tell her that UAN/PF/EPF process were not moving ahead. Relieving letter need to check in mail box, if available will share.
Basically they may ask this to check if they are not involved in dual employment. Easily she can get out by showing inward transactions happening in her bank account.
No need to worry about this. At times company culture triggers us to abscond.
I have seen abscondings very very closely in global conglomerates. No one is bothered about it until you have some trade secrets. Relax!
There are companies which fire after several years post Background checks. This is pretty serious
That does happen not because of a failed background check but if the employee is already in focus for a termination and the employer simply uses the bg verification as an excuse.

She is doomed now. UAN number says everything now a days. Baat khatam… Never ever abscond. Simple. UAN number daalo sab pata chal jata hai aajkal.
