Whatsapp groups for official communication

Is it okay for an organisation to encourage pfficial communication over whatsapp? I am in 20+ whatsapp groups. Manager keeps on texting on group on Sundays as well day and night. Need to know community's views on this.

Depends on the organization.

If it’s bothersome, mute the groups / archive them over the weekend/non work hours.
Or switch all work related conversations to a different number dedicated to work.

Just make sure that you keep your manager in the know - let him know that if something is an emergency they would need to call you or individually message.

Is it ok? Not at all.

Is it common? More than you k think.

Many orgs have sort of pseudo enforced this idea of using WhatsApp for anything and everything work related, so the best way to deal with this nonsense is to have a secondary number that you need to keep purely for work. Ideally having another phone itself would be better so that even apps can be separated out, and use that number only during work hours. Had to learn this quite late in life, but this does pay off big time in terms of having a good WLB.

Tell them it is unprofessional and unorganised to use WhatsApp. At least use discord slack or email. Things get lost in WhatsApp easily.
