Applying to Germany

Hello All,

I am a backend engineer with over 6 years of experience and I have been trying to apply to jobs in Germany. I'm using LinkedIn, arbeitnow and a couple of other websites.

Is there a whatsapp or discord group for people who are serious about applying to Germany ? If so it would be helpful for people to join and discuss the entire process

I’m a hiring manager working in Germany for a German company and I’ve hired many people for non-EU locations like India. AMA if you have any questions.

What kind of roles do you hire for?

Couple of questions:

  1. Is it better to use the German format for the CV some people say yes but I've seen hiring managers say that they hate it
  2. I see many jobs with lots of applicants (like around 70 etc) does it make sense to apply for roles as soon as they are posted to make sure mine gets viewed quickly? Kind of like a first come first serve
  3. I have been trying to send emails as well to recruiters in addition to applying to the job posting but I'm not sure if that shows interest or if it's just annoying
  4. is there anything specific you think I can do to show recruiters that I really am interested in working at their company other than the usual fluff speech ?

I’m thinking about getting my master's there, but I guess there is a long process for it. You need to submit SOP; I think speaking German was waived off sometime back, but it’ll be required to converse with locals. Don't know how to apply for jobs, I don’t think you’ll get them directly unless you have some strong references.

A quick tip as a frontend dev. Try to contribute to opensource projects on GitHub and look for open positions in orgs like vercel, supabase.

I already have started to apply there as well. Also one question do you apply to jobs which have the description in German as well? Or do you stick to English

Apply on those too. Most of the time recruiters names are provided. You can try connecting with them on LinkedIn or directly mail them.

If you interested, you should try Booking.com (Amsterdam), they hire a lot from India- maybe checkout people who are from India working in Germany what are the common things incorporate that on your LinkedIn profile and then reapply.
