Assumption
Why do people on this platform assume a generic username to be a man? (if the username doesn't give the gender away)

Probably multiple reasons, I think it’s always best to refer to anyone online in a gender neutral way which is non-obvious.
Women are absent from most social spaces, offline and online. Men therefore, have a bias for using gendered language. It’s wrong to assume I believe that online. However, “brother/bro” can also be a gender neutral term of endearment.
Most guys have habitually talked to only guys. Hence, if they vibe with someone anonymously they default to thinking that since they are always chill with their “bros”, the other person “must” be a guy.
However, I am of the opinion that forums and spaces should have equivalent female participation, it lends unique insights and perspectives, especially when the average man barely talks to any women, and hence has a skewed perception.
Yeah, true. But that's what I want people to stop doing, assuming! gender neutral is only what I am asking for👍
I understand what you mean and I’m with you @MutedFlow57
I think it’s more of a philosophical question, whether things in our scope of control are more important than things that aren’t.
One cannot change how others speak to oneself but maybe one can change how they feel about something.
I think it’s purely a question of what is more important to oneself in life and whether those things are worth fighting over.
There are no right or wrong answers here, just one’s opinion and willingness to put time and effort.
