Best place to work (Slavery)
"No one from EY attended Anna's funeral".
This particular line stuck out from the email Anna's mother has written to @rajivmemani (Chairman of EY, India) after Anna's death.
I would urge all of you to read the complete letter.
This is a true definition of toxic work culture. A reality check needs to be done at corporates. Hypocrisy is that there are long detailed policies containg " a better working world" slogan just to show off. Moreover, bosses/ colleagues keep on complaining long working hours to others but humiliate their own subordinates
Fuck EY. I am glad I never worked with such companies. Terrible for the parents.
Anna should have been much more strict about what "she does" rather than what someone else wants her to do. This kind of uncontrollable work pressure happens when the employee is not strong enough to have control of their own work-life-balance and the manager is a potato who is not at all fit for his/her role. People should not be sincere this much to their work ignoring their own health. Beware! We are only progressing as long as we are healthy first, then doing the work. Otherwise, we are dying early.
Toxic work culture getting normalised in India. Employees who work beyond their working hours get higher raises and recognition than those employees who complete their daily targets or meet deadlines within work hours. The story of Anna Sebastian, the hardworking CA at EY is not unknown to anyone. It was alleged that her manager Animesh Jain EY had made her life a living hell. Anna had been stressing about over workload and even said that she’d been working late hours as her manager was giving her work even after her working hours. Unable to bear such pressure, she took this drastic step. It is in light of this incident that her mother wrote the letter to the Chairman. Findings from the World Health Organization also stated that one worker in every ten years commits suicide due to a toxic work environment. And the condition is getting worse. It’s high time that proper measures are taken to this unbearable pressure on employees.
