Hey guys, working on my next app. Wanted some feedback on the app logo for Bhasha - Duolingo for India.
Problem - Design a logo which can represent Indian languages in a more interesting and eye catching way so more people will be intrigued to explore and learn about it.
Idea - Represent the diversity of the Indian cultures and all it's languages with different colours while the mascot is the Indian national bird, a peacock.
What do you guys think? What improvements can I make? Where and how can I make it more user friendly so people will be interested in it? Should I even make it?
Since India is a country with relatively lower literacy (the reported numbers vs in real), you can try language transliteration (via camera) too. It is still poor outside English-Hindi-Tamil translations to a large extent.
This is a unique look at it.
The idea is to teach people other languages if they already know English, this way there is a higher possibility they can pay for it and already know 2 languages.
Targeting the Northern Indians coming to South like Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, may be new job opportunities or further education.
Most importantly as Duolingo uses the owl mascot, I wanted something for Bhasha as well so the peacock. And for the colours, I am trying to make it colourful and eye catchy so more people will explore it. At the end of the day it will be a small game based learning just light Duolingo
But your insights are appreciated. Could you go about more on what 4 language families you are talking about?
India has 4 major language families. This explains why North Indians struggle to learn South Indian languages and why some North Eastern or South Indians also find it difficult to speak Hindi or call it "foreign".
Indo-European Languages: Includes Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi to English, French, Russian, Spanish, Iranian, etc.
Dravidian: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu, etc.
Sino-Tibetan: Bodo, Meitei, some languages in Sikkim and Arunachal, etc.
Austro Asiatic: Khasi, Munda in India.
These are very diverse and different language families. And if you cover atleast 2-3 of each family you can end up covering a good volume of conversations in India.
This logo looks fine to me, except I just can’t unsee that gay pride rainbow colors everywhere!
Make it monochromatic or mininal, I don’t think it should include all points like indian heritage, multilang appearances and all.
Or maybe instead of logo, you can simply go with characters for example “blinkit” in their app. And keep 4 colors max like microsoft or google?
I made the app logo colourful to intrigue people to explore it or click on it, thus using bright colours but now realising the gay aspect of it, what animal or mascot should I go forward with?
I am not a big tech or something like that to use monochromatic logos or simple stylised logos like Google, Apple or Microsoft
A peacock has been used a lot to show “Indian-ness”. It has nothing to do with language or learning.
Duolingo uses an own since it signifies wisdom and learning. Why not break the stereotype of a peacock and try using an elephant or parrot?
This logo somehow reminds me of CNBC logo.
Unfortunately there are several apps like this and you may find yourself not be able to make much revenue
I want to try.
Look as a North Indian and after living in Bengaluru, I am tired of fighting with the auto drivers and the delivery boys. I want to learn the language I want to connect with them because I believe languages are much more than communication.

Yes I would love to learn Gujarati and Marathi. I understand your logic about living in Bangalore. Similarly for me about Mumbai

I really liked the concept. It has best of both worlds. Easiest way to create content is audio, and consume is text.
