Jealousy is killing me

First of all, ask yourself are you feeling sad for yourself and/or jealous because your colleagues got promoted? If you cannot be happy for others, then I would suggest you to change your way of thinking because anyways this thought process won’t take you anywhere. I can see you are very competitive, which is definitely not a very good sign to be honest. I have worked with a few very competitive colleagues myself and I can assure it was not a good experience at all. My two cents, think big, enjoy the process and never stop believing in yourself. And most importantly, learn to appreciate others, celebrate their achievements and be happy for them. Maybe one day someone will do the same for you. :)

First of all, this is completely normal to feel and please don’t beat yourself up for feeling this way. We are all wired to think like this and you are not alone or an outlier in feeling this way. This feeling cannot be avoided, it can just be managed by analysing and tackling, so don’t run away rather embrace this. Secondly, your promotion is not a measure of your ability or dedication, it is a factor of 100 variables and many of them are not in your control. One mental model that helps is to think like a sportsman in a very competitive team, even the most talented ones are benched many a times but they still keep at it. There are so many cricketers who kill it at Ranji & nationals level but never get a chance to play for India. But they keep at it because of their love to the sport, so you should find a love/passion/drive in your work and just keep at it. Also, believe in the fact that samay se pehle aur bhagya se jyada kisi ko kuch nahi mil sakta hai!

Work hard, talk openly with your manager on what to do to go to next level. Speak up

If someone else took your recognition then it is a different story altogether. Otherwise, it's okay to to not know things, not being the smartest in the room or the one with highest achievements. There is always a bigger fish. I am sure you are a bigger fish to someone else or give some time - you definitely will be. So first accept that. Next try to be humble. Know where you lack and what you lack. Reach out to them by appreciating them. Ask them to share with you. There will always be dickheads but that should not affect your willingness to gain from others. Reach out to someone else in that case. Also, once in a while you should consider changing the environment and people you are with. Celebrate others success and they will celebrate yours.

I say what I try to follow. Don't be so hard on yourself. Jealousy is an human emotion. It only increases by trying to get rid of it. All you can do is just try to understand it. Be kind to yourself(yes it would be difficult to be kind to ourselves when we look something as an competition,but try to be kind to yourself) Go through that phase by not thinking about "to get rid of that emotion", but to "understand" it. Trust me it helps. When you face the similar situation in future, you won't be as much as jealous as you are now.

If we wait long enough we’d be dead

If you are giving your full efforts, you can expect your organisation to give you a good increment or hike. If this is the case talk with your manager. Understand what they say and, if there is no outcome from the manager, you can think about switching. You don't need to be emotionally attached to your org.

Been there done that. Let me guess Service Advisor or Data Sciences under NK. I went from “you are the absolute top performer, get ready to be promoted” to “we don’t have the next role for you and you need to switch to another team” within 2 months. My 2 cents would be to ask yourself what you really want- high professional growth, money or work life balance. And see if the current org will give you what you want the most. I can assure you one thing- you are jealous/sad because your current situation won’t get you what you seek.
