Nationalism abuse? 🧐

Lately Ola's founder Bhavish has been discontinuing their dependencies on foreign products ranging from their own cloud servers to their own GPT's which people are specualting is just a wrapper over ChatGPT and lately launched their own Ola Maps which is itself a wrapper over OpenStreetMap. Will this benefit Indian Companies to compete with the global ones or will it just die down eventually. Ola folks can shed some light on it. 😁

Kya dikat hai bhai, udane do paisa. Tumhare thodi hai. Good firms genuinely perform well and return money. The ecosystem is not forgiving -- you don't survive very long if you don't create any big wins. It's an extremely high stress job with very little WLB. You do make money but it comes at a cost. Layoffs are sad but at least those jobs existed in the first place? They wouldn't without VC money. India's VC scene is extremely young and it'll take time before we produce a Google. Entrepreneurs are not always right, they are not always nice either; but they definitely are courageous.

I am starting up soon. I care about working on meaningful problems, with good people and building the right culture. Have been hearing from a lot of folks about culture problems in startups. Seems more of a norm rather than an exception. Curious to know why do startup culture degrade? What pitfalls should I avoid to create a healthy culture?

The US is in its late stage capitalist phase, a ship that's going to sink for the next 50 years. If you're a young person there it doesn't make sense to work as hard as your Grandpa the reward on average isn't as great. India on the other hand is poised to become a great multi-trillion $ economy. Onto something huge. We're talking like 10x growth of the economy here. Start-ups that have made it like Razorpay, Swiggy, PayTM, even Cred, if they survive will be really huge as capital in the country, liquidity and lifestyles go up over the next 50 years. Be the capitalist, take the risks, make bets, work and stack up promotions and money. Don't join an Infosys and work 70 hours there, do it for a start up of any scale you believe is going to make it. Or better yet start your own.

Literally, every single Founder I've encountered here seems to be an old, regressive, hard-headed boomer who hates the younger generation for their freedom. Go through some DINK or WFH or Salary Rant posts and you'll be able to spot them. They are rigid in their mindset and call anyone who disagrees a degenerate, entitled, and (my personal favourite) 'influenced by the western media' lol. Let's just ignore these morons and keep on bettering our life

Want to get some perspective here because I think it’d be valuable to hear about other people’s experiences. This job at Google has completely destroyed my confidence and I feel so paranoid about shipping anything now. I have made some mistakes but I have always caught them in staging or working drafts. Here is what my manager has said to me: - I lack attention to detail. - I do not have drive. - I do not have any ambition. And the reason I have been told this is because: I messed up a flow that the Lead PM had come up with in the first place. Then the Lead PM flips back on me and says that it would be "an embarrassment" to ship this. I find myself immersed in a constant cycle of spending hours each day reviewing work, gripped by the fear of facing criticism or even the prospect of being fired. Despite investing significant time and effort, it seems that the only feedback I receive is overwhelmingly negative. It has reached a point where I question myself and wonder if I should have not been here at all. This toxic work environment is undeniably draining, and I'm left grappling with insane anxiety. Has anyone else faced this?
