Suggestions on MS
Hi Team, I have an admit from a Boston University for MS in US. The loan amount is coming around 80L including living expenses and tuition fees. I’ll have to take a loan to pursue education there. Is that worth it? The loan amount looks too high. What would be the time taken on an average to payback the loan? Is the ROI justified? Please help. Thanks.
This is a personal opinion. A while back I was in your shoes so here is my take:
1) MS in US made sense to me only if it was from a well reputed uni. BU is fine but it’s not among the top universities. It’s just an expensive school. 80L is a lotta money for not so great uni.
2) finding a job ain’t gonna be easy in US. Economy ain’t doing great and a lot of my friends who are currently studying in US are in a state of panic. No jobs out there.
3) visa situation sucks
4) if you are doing MS for “knowledge” then your motivation is wrong. If you are doing MS for better pay then know that Indian start ups pay really well now. You get better PPP here
5) for 2 years you will be away from the industry. You will be starting late
Also note that I’m a stranger on the internet. Me being strongly opinionated doesn’t make me right.
Ask more people. Get more datapoints. And do what feels right to you
Please don’t follow this guy’s go for it . He won’t pay your bills.
Those who tell you to go for it, will not repay your loan and those who tell you to skip it, might not know the worth of an MS.
What matters is what field of MS you're taking up and whats the typical starting salary of a postgrad from BU. If even 50% of the net pay as your EMI can complete the loan in less than 5 years, go for it.

Go to US only if you get admit in a good university. Good colleges along with good profile, do matter a lot. I know a friend of mine who is doing his masters from Northeastern University, got internship in Amazon Seattle. Whereas my other friend who is pursuing masters from Illinois institute of Technology, Chicago is struggling to get a internship call or response.
Even though both of them are applying to internship through general process, the one with a good university is getting the response back from companies.

I have an admit from NEU. Still thinking about is it worth the investment considering current economic downturn.
My opinion is make a move and take that risk.
Here are my reasons -
India is not surpassing US in pay and tech roles anytime soon, current Indian startup ecosystem is still in a bubble with very few companies which are actually making money and finally most of the innovation is still happening in the US.
Yes there are layoffs and situation is bad right now but things will definitely change by the time you passout and new companies (other than MAANGs) will rule the world
