Can’t celebrate Diwali now!

We just received a message on our company (Graphy by Unacademy) from our business head that, we should not come to him asking for 6-7 leave for Diwali. These are the employees who want to go back to there home town for the featival. Additionally he said that it is an optional holiday and we can ask for 2-3 days work from home max not more that that, and we should understand our business’s needs and remain focused on it. What should I do now I have to prioritise my family and going to my home town, like this I will have pressure from both ends, please pass on any advice.

Always plan these kind of leaves in advanced, maybe 1-2 months prior.

If you guys would have talked about it with your managers 1 or 2 months back, they would have helped you or planned accordingly. Sprint planning would go accordingly. Its totally understandable that ppl want to go home, but last minute announcements doesn’t help anybody. I know ppl who have planned out their leaves for December, coz they know its gonna be rush and everyone wants to celebrate and end this year on a happy note. Take this diwali as a lesson, and take good break in December, and spend time with your family.

My advice is never tell them your plan. Take sick leave and go. If they are going to fire you they will do it anyway. You working 20 hrs is not going to change amything

Also @UnevenPants maybe report the same to a few news agencies like MoneyControl etc so that this is widely spoken of.
