Consulting opportunities for people coming from software background

I've been working as a Software developer with a total of 2.5 years of exp in an MNC. I want to explore other areas like consulting. Can y'all suggest how I can get started and would I be a fool to try applying to the Big4?

Also let me know if the whole shebang about consultants getting to travel more true or it depends on other factors??

If you are a tech consultant then you are probably not going to travel much. And even if you do then it gets boring real fast and the constant travel fucks up the diet.
