Cricket World Cup not hyped enough this year?

I genuinely don’t feel like we are hosting a cricket World Cup in our country this year. In 2011, the hype and craze around us hosting was way higher. Stadiums were better filled them for other games apart from Indian games, while I saw at least 5-10% empty seats even for the India v Aus game even though everything was apparently sold out in minutes on BMS?

Is it a PR/marketing problem or is the hype from the sport just not great anymore?

Odis seem way too long in a climate of low/reducing attention spans among people

It’s mostly because of the corrupt BCCI. The greed for money and power have made them blind. Each and every damn thing is a business opportunity for them. Wherever nepotism is involved, you cannot expect much.

BCCI thinks no matter what they do, blind fans will always be there to support cricket, and they can churn out as much money as they want. Maybe few years down the lane, we might see a few scams by the BCCI getting unearthed by other ruling government.

Hope is a good thing. Probably the best of things.

Unless BCCI comes under the gambit of govt, there's no chance of that happening. There was an attempt to get them under RTI, but didn't go through. Now that the govt (basically Amit Shah) has practically infiltrated BCCI to mint money, there's no need for them to be accountable.
As you may already understand, the Indian team is for all practical intents and purposes a private team and not one with national/govt oversight.

To the larger point, I feel if fans start feeling cheated/alienated by not being given that respect (e.g., ticket availability of CWC matches), they may just start not following the sport anymore

This could be a tipping point for the game. Only the ipl format may survive with no takers for bilateral games

The richer the india becomes the sooner the cricket dies.

Cricket is dying.

Asian games is way better. I am wondering why wasn't I introduce to other sports than cricket

BubblyDonut

Because cricket was stuffed down our throats but other sports weren’t commercial enough when we were kids because we weren’t good at them then + they didn’t have the ₹ pull that Sachin did

The 50 over and test format are dying due lack of attention span and time due to the busy lifestyle on the other hand T20 would grow as it lasts around 3 hrs. One of the major reasons football is world famous & favourite is because of the 90 mins play full of emotions and actions

Retail tickets are within the 500-4000 range. I think the pricing on retail for most games is fine.

  1. You had more elder and popular players then like Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Dhoni.
  2. It was Sachin's last worldcup
  3. It was the first world Cup in many years when India was hosting.
  4. India was white washed in 2007, so 2011 was important for the fans at home.

How do you explain no opening ceremony for the WC but an opening ceremony vs a team we vowed never to play bilateral series with?

India was also badly beaten in 2019 - with a great chance to enter the final after disappointing with the bat.

It’s probably Kohli and Rohit’s last WC. Maybe even Bumrah, Ashwin.

Hype is built. Don’t see any hype for this WC as a whole in such senses. Just 1 game that BCCI can milk for 💸💸

Once India reaches final stages interest will increase. Too many high scoring matches make it less interesting. We need more close matches between bat and bowl to make it interesting.

Also the quality of players is not as good as it was during 2011.

Do you guys still moan about losing the world Cup. Or have you moved on. I think this was our best chance to win it but we lost our chance. I also think we will not be able to win major ICC tournament in future by seeing current team st...
